The San Antonio Spurs are no longer undefeated in Las Vegas and got eliminated from summer league championship contention after losing to the Philadelphia 76ers by a final score of 96-80. The Spurs struggled in the first quarter before storming back. Unfortunately, the Sixers dominated in the fourth period to stroll to the victory. Stats: Spurs vs. 76ers Spurs vs. 76ers – Final Grades Harrison Ingram Offensively, Ingram was pretty impressive. When the Spurs were struggling to score, it was him who stepped up. He hit three threes, had three assists and looked comfortable making decisions. Ingra ..read more

The San Antonio Spurs moved to 3-0 in the Las Vegas summer league with a 90-85 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. Jamaree Bouyea hit two critical jumpers in the final minute to allow the Spurs to escape with the win.  San Antonio next plays on Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers. If the Spurs win again, their hopes of winning a summer league championship would still be alive. Without Stephon Castle, who was ruled out for the rest of summer league with a minor wrist injury, the San Antonio Spurs moved to 2-0 in Las Vegas. Their latest victory was a 79-76  win over the Atlanta Hawks. San Antonio held No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher to 11 points on 4-for-12 shooting and the Spurs were able to execute late to hang on. Stats: Spurs vs. Hawks Spurs vs. Hawks – Final Grades Harrison Ingram The good: Ingram played smart basketball on both ends. While his fellow starters were busy turning over the ball, the rookie could be counted on to make the right play. The bad: Ingr ..read more

The San Antonio Spurs won their first game at the summer league hosted in Las Vegas. Tonight, the Spurs will attempt to go 2-0 when they take on the Atlanta Hawks. This will be the second game of a back-to-back for the summer league Spurs. Yesterday, the Spurs defeated the Portland Trail Blazers by a final count of 83-77. While the final score looks close, the Silver and Black controlled the game from the beginning to the end. Stephon Castle stole the show for the Spurs (see the grades). The Hawks are 0-1 in Vegas, as they dropped their opener to the Washington Wizards by a final count of 94-8 ..read more

The San Antonio Spurs began the Las Vegas leg of their summer league schedule with a win. The Spurs dominated throughout the contest and held on when the Portland Trail Blazers made a late run. The 83-77 final score doesn’t tell the full story of how much San Antonio controlled this game.  Stats: Spurs vs. Blazers Spurs vs. Blazers – Final Grades Stephon Castle The good: Castle was the team’s primary ball-handler and looked really good in that department — pressure rarely flustered him. His patience in the pick-and-roll was excellent. He had a number of good passes and his decision-making ..read more

The 2024 Spurs summer league finally has a win. However, the victory comes with an asterisk because it was against the Chinese national team, a squad that massively struggled in their first two summer league outings.  The Spurs weren’t able to grab control of the game until the third quarter but were eventually able to put China away by a final count of 89-67. The Silver and Black now head to Las Vegas to play at least five more summer league games.  Stats: Spurs vs. China Spurs vs. China – Final Grades Stephon Castle The good: Castle again exhibited a lot of point guard skill. On Monday, the San Antonio Spurs officially completed the three-team trade that landed Harrison Barnes in San Antonio. Along with the 32-year-old forward, the Spurs received a 2031 unprotected first round pick swap from the Sacramento Kings. In return for Barnes and the pick swap, San Antonio sent RaiQuan Gray to the Chicago Bulls. By utilizing their cap room to facilitate the sign-and-trade deal that sent DeMar DeRozan from the Bulls to the Kings, the Spurs were handsomely rewarded. A few intriguing sidenotes emerged during the time it took for this three way trade to be completed: 1) Barnes ..read more

Well, at least the San Antonio Spurs summer league team didn’t lose by as many points as they did in their first game. In their second summer league game, the Spurs were defeated by the Sacramento Kings by a final count of 85-59. After losing their debut by 32 points, falling by 26 points is a step in the right direction. Seriously, though, this was some of the worst basketball I’ve ever witnessed. The Spurs shot 21.9% from the field and they were 6-for-37 from three-point range. Somehow, their play was even worse than the numbers suggest.  Stats: Spurs vs. Kings Spurs vs. Kings – Final G ..read more

The San Antonio Spurs will look to bounce back from a dismal summer league debut when they take on the Sacramento Kings. This will be San Antonio’s second game of the California Classic and the Kings will be playing in front of their home fans. The Spurs play three games in California before heading to Las Vegas to play at least five more summer league games. In their debut, the Silver and Black got destroyed by the Charlotte Hornets by a final score of 97-65. Stephon Castle showed a lot of promise (see the Grades) but almost everyone else massively underperformed. Stephon Castle and Sidy Ciss ..read more
