The Microsoft Syntex AI model type Structured Document Processing model (previously known as Forms Processing) has had some significant updates which were launched as part of Microsoft Syntex. In my opinion the biggest update is Structured Document Processing models now allows models to be reused across libraries and sites. Previously Structured Document Processing models had to be setup individually on one library and there was no possibility to deploy the model to other libraries and sites. So, if you wanted to deploy structured document processing models to many libraries/sites you would ne ..read more

A new Microsoft Syntex AI document processing model was recently released called freeform which purpose is to automatically extract information from unstructured and freeform documents such as letters, contracts or correspondence. Initially I was a little confused with the new freeform model type and what scenario you would use it for, so I needed to test it out & learn. My key confusion was what exactly are “freeform” documents and seeing which documents would work best with the model? I will attempt to answer this question in this blog along with introducing the freeform model and other ..read more

I’ve just spotted something very exciting in my M365 tenant a new PREVIEW action in Power Automate & Azure Logic Apps for Syntex content assembly. This enables users to generate personalised documents in a workflow using SharePoint Syntex Content Assembly and this opens up the doors to the whole bulk document generation story from a workflow! This is very exciting news and one that I’m sure will be very popular! The only way previously to create documents using Syntex content assembly was from a document library and only one document could be created at a time – so there was lots of mouse ..read more

The Power of the Term Store with SharePoint Syntex
Leon Armston's Blog
by Leon Armston

SharePoint Syntex now makes extensive use of the Term Store (Managed Metadata Services – MMS) and does so in many different ways which I will go through in this blog. When Microsoft were working on Project Cortex and before SharePoint Syntex & Viva Topics were even known, there was a big investment by the SharePoint engineering team to improve the term store. The term store when moved to SharePoint online from SharePoint on-premise was literally moved “as is” (I believe!) to the cloud by Microsoft and it came with the old slow classic UI. Adding/administering terms took ages as users had t ..read more

by Leon Armston

There has been a new update to document understanding models in SharePoint Syntex to allow adding refinement rules to entity extractors.. Entity extractors are rules created in a model to extract a specific piece of information in a document i.e. Client name or Contract date etc. The new refinement rule functionality allows a user the control to create a rule to specify to remove duplicate entities, extract only a certain number of values or lines from the entity extractor value. This happens at the same time the entity extractor is invoked on the document and allows greater control of the ret ..read more

New SharePoint Syntex functionality has recently arrived in my tenant to extend the Advanced Search functionality that is available in document libraries to allow custom columns from your Syntex models to be added to search. This feature is only available to licenced Syntex users, only in libraries that have Syntex models applied to them and is accessible via an +Add more options link. This advanced Syntex search enables users to do an advanced metadata search over files from the top M365 suite search bar. Before today this advanced search only allowed search using six pre-set columns: Keyword ..read more

A new update has recently came to SharePoint Syntex to allow users to create & train their own local document understanding models in Team or Communication sites. The models can only be used on the site they’ve been created in. Site Owners no longer need to have access to a SharePoint Syntex content centre to create Syntex models for classification and extraction on their site. This is feature ID 88519 Deploying A Local Document Understanding Model First your site needs to be enabled for local modern c reation which adds the following lists & libraries required for Syntex Document Unde ..read more

New Document Card View For Libraries With SharePoint Syntex Model Applied
Leon Armston's Blog
by Leon Armston
1y ago
There is now a new document card view to display extracted model information (metadata) in a tile view in libraries that have a SharePoint Syntex document understanding model (DUM) applied. When a document understanding model is applied from a Syntex Content Center to a new library there are now three options (under advanced settings) to choose the default view of the library. Users may however not even choose to have this new document card view as their default view. Unfortunately at the moment it seems that previous libraries where a Syntex DUM has been applied cannot be retrofitted with th ..read more
