Two weeks, stay home two weeks and prevent the spread … 1. Do we have enough food? We can eat all that sitting in the freezer for once, freezer burned beans never looked so good. 2. Thank God I buy in bulk. Toilet paper .. check. 3. We will relax and enjoy two weeks of family time, we could use the break. 4. Fear, worry. Don’t touch the mail, don’t leave the house unless necessary. Let’s quarantine the packages in the garage. 5. Walks and hikes, lots of getting out. 6. We found yeast so let’s bake some fresh bread. Then a few cakes, how about a new dinner dish. Let’s cook and bake. 7. Google c ..read more

Winter Does Not Have to Suck
Crumbs in the Couch

Eloquent title , I know. When we moved back to Northeastern Pennsylvania almost eight years ago, we knew winters were going to be tough. Growing up here as a child, I dreamed of escaping to a warmer climate. In the end, I realized there’s joy in four seasons. Winters in New Jersey were mostly mild. In Northeastern Pa, it can turn pretty cold in November and continue right through April. Early on we wanted to make sure that winter did not put us down in the dumps and stuck in the house. So we made an investment in winter. We got the kids ski lessons and invested in gear. We taught them to ice ..read more

I promised myself this winter break that I would step away from work and recharge. I rarely read during the school year and usually never for pleasure. Amazon offers a free read each month for Prime Members through their First Reads program. This month I chose Sweet Water by Cara Reinhard. If you like a read that grabs you from the first chapter, this is a great choice. I finished in a day. It’s a great perk of being a prime member that many don’t take advantage of. So grab your free read today! Check out this month’s picks ..read more

–We are back to having wide spread Co-Vid in our area.  With schools switching to remote from a few weeks and sports cancelled, we need to get creative with our activities.  I created a Christmas Light Bingo Card for a family of four to use.  Make it more festive by grabbing a clipboard, flashlight, and Bingo Dabber from your local Dollar Tree for easy play in the car.  . Enjoy your  Christmas Bingo ..read more

Thankful

Thankful, grateful, blessed… it’s been a tough eight months. There were moments of joy mixed in with all the fear and confusion. I can say that we have learned how to accommodate and live the new normal. I have restructured every aspect of the way I teach, which at first was difficult beyond words. Keeping your distance for seven year olds who need you to be near now more than ever, not an easy task. Teachers have to be flexible and this pandemic has pushed us right to the limits of our flexibility. My own children have become accustom to a mix of at home and school based learning as well. Jam For Advent?
Crumbs in the Couch

When I was a young child growing up in the eighties, we always had an advent calendar. It was thick paper often with a religious scene. Each door revealed a secret treasure, like a small picture of a horn or goat. Now I’d only get to open a door every other day, because odd days belonged to my brother. I’d about burst awaiting the great reveal… could it be a wreath , a silver bell, or even baby Jesus himself hiding behind that tiny door? Those were simpler times when a tiny picture of a wreath was enough for an 8 year old. After my own children losing interest in the tiny paper doors, we moved ..read more

Soma has some of the most comfortable and flattering bra choices. They are well worth the normal larger price tag. For the next 3 days bras are $29 and many choices of underwear styles are 5 for $25. Also they are including one underwear with the purchase of a $29 bra. That’s a steal! My personal favorite is the Enbliss style. The material is extremely soft and comfortable. You can get an additional 2% back with Rakuten today and shipping for my $58 order was free ..read more

One Thousand Things to Say
Crumbs in the Couch

I have at least that many things to say on a given day, but often the blog remains eerily silent.  Sometimes months and weeks go by and I haven’t put down a single word.  No remembrance of this very important time, no tips on how to survive, no humor…just silence. Where am I in the midst of this pandemic?  I am squarely in the middle ground.  I wear my mask, we see friends outside, we have ventured into stores, we have taken a less risky vacation, we are still healthy and still equally worried. The great in person/remote learning school debate, hits a little more ..read more
