So so so excited to share to all of you this new burger joint we found in San Nicolas! The Backyard Grill serving some gorgeous Angus burgers, buffalo wings, and fries is the place to be on a weekend! Their patties are grilled to perfection! They use quality angus beef, seasoned lightly with salt & pepper. Get the best tasting burgers here! They have it made medium well until it gets to you perfectly juicy-tender! Uuuugh! So good! Loving their OG, and their BBC – even their bacon is cooked crisp and crunchy! Buffalo wings also so good, best paired with the blue cheese dip! We highly rec ..read more

The Hungry Ilocano

I have been invited to work with this hidden gem in Batac City, Ilocos Norte called The Treasure Trove. I was tapped to create some of their marketing content and it was so reminiscent on my end because finally, it’s been a few years that I haven’t covered some lifestyle and travel related content for this blog. I did not hesitate! Just so you know, this blog is not always going to be about food but I’d like to also share a few about the things going down under the Ilocos sun. Events, lifestyle, roadtrips.. and so much more so here goes! I’d like to congratulate the whole team behind this beau ..read more

Tita Kit’s Ensaymadas – Fluffy & Buttery goodness!
The Hungry Ilocano
by mariannecaye

Tita Kit’s Ensaymadas easily became one of the most favourite ensayamadas in the city. Who could resist their soft, and buttery sweet dough that is baked to transform into pillowy buns? It’s not “new”, of course… ensayamadas. But what makes them stand out is how they generously smother these babies with endless choices of frosting flavours and toppings. Different seasons, and different holidays call for different and distinct flavour offerings. So creative! This time the Caja (mixed ensaymadas) I got contained 3 flavours: Ube Macapuno, Queso de Bola, and Ube Cheese-mada. Sometimes the Caja als ..read more

Lush interiors at the Kamarinn Cafe

Spending time in Kamarinn Cafe felt like a quick get-away from the city. Overlooking the Paoay Lake, dining here also means enjoying it with the most beautiful sunsets. Even on a slightly gloomy day, the lake view was still stunning. It’s also a very well-ventilated area. You get fresh air coupled with the owner’s menagerie of plants in the dining area. Enjoy classic Ilocos Norte cuisine and experimental dishes which are playful takes on the latter. Their Palabok Custard was surprisingly good! Also enjoyed the Okra fried rice, and stir-fried Wild Eggplants until we finished it off with Inkalti ..read more

Tealive Ilocos’ Hojicha Series
The Hungry Ilocano
by mariannecaye

Tealive Ilocos recently posted about their new green tea brews called the Hojicha series. The moment I saw them on their page, I needed to have first dibs! Before anything else, trivia time: Hojicha is basically japanese green tea but prepped differently giving it a very distinct flavour versus the usual green tea taste that we are all familiar with. The leaves are roasted in pots instead of steamed, and is cooked on high heat giving it its distinct reddish brown colour. They have 3 Hojicha variants and we tried them all!  The latte, latte with aren sugar which basically palm sugar, and latte ..read more

We’ve been escaping here in Sharetea Ilocos to destress after work for quite a while now that some of their baristas already know our usual orders, and the guard on night shift can memorize our info for the logbook already. This is Sharetea at night! Very refreshing not only because of their drinks but to the eyes as well. See for yourself ..read more

PAM’S: Something new yet feels like home

Visiting La Preciosa had a different feel today but in a good way. Aside from the authentic Ilocano dishes we all go there for, not to mention how all the tourists we used to have in Ilocos Norte pre-pandemic MUST have a taste of their famous carrot cake and of course, to at least be able to experience the real deal in fine Ilocano cuisine, something new is inside and it’s worth the drop-by, as always! A lot of people we know has up’ed their game in the food scene. Since my childhood, La Preciosa was already giving a very established ring in the ears. And now, looking at how the pandemic has s ..read more
