Does your dog suffer from ‘Squirrel syndrome’ when you are trying to get those perfect photos? We all know the problem…we’ve spent the last few minutes trying to get our dog to sit in the perfect location with the best background for you to create that memorable photograph. Think of that incredible view behind them or up on the best log in the forest. They’re sat still, looking at you the one minute and then ‘Squirrel’ they look off to the right/left, and then they dash off chasing the flighty little bird/rabbit/leaf/butterfly that has caught their attention. Only some dogs have a perfect si ..read more

Want to Another year has passed by so quickly 2021 has been a struggle for everyone, but I’m so pleased that when the rules allowed me to re-open I’ve been able to meet so many lovely dogs and their owners. I’m very grateful to those clients who trusted me to capture their dogs out on location and travelled to spend time in our little part of the beautiful North Wales countryside. Looking back through these images it’s strange for me to see that obvious gap where the first quarter of the year is missing.  Those sometimes foggy days, the frosty/blue/cold tones to the Winter session ima ..read more

Can I and the family be in the photographs? That’s a question I sometimes get asked by my clients when they book a dog photography session with me.  Perhaps I’m not asked the question enough, because too many of my clients actually prefer to not be included in the images.  That’s such a shame, as we enjoy amazing relationships with the dogs in our lives and we really should make sure that that is captured during the session too. If you glance at my main galleries (location and studio) you will mainly see images of dogs.  Perhaps there are the odd images that show elements of m ..read more

Behind the scenes – Skye in the river

I’m lucky to have a pair of dogs at home that are my, sometimes reluctant, models for new locations.  They do love water though and any chance of exploring a new forest walk is going to be taken up with happy giggles from them both. My older WCS, Skye, has had a lot of time invested in her training but sometimes the location proves a little too exciting and her stay isn’t quite what I would like the first time around.  But like everything in life, a little patience and persistence mean you get there in the end. I love the final image and how it really captures her spirit in the s ..read more

This photograph means the world to me…

I’m fortunate that as a dog owner, I’ve got a pair of crazy Cocker Spaniels on tap to photograph whenever I need them. But it also means that I put in a lot of time to capture images of them to remember them by. After all, we never know when we might lose them forever. It’s celebrating the dogs we love, specific looks they might give when the photograph was taken or the thoughts you know are going on in their minds draw you to specific images. With almost ten years of being a full-time dog photographer and more years still of photographing my dogs, I do appreciate how important the artwork ..read more
