It’s a scary time to be a queer American: with homophobic hate crimes on the rise and LGBTQ+ rights rapidly eroding, it can be difficult to find anything to be hopeful about. With pride month coming to a close, however, it’s more important than ever to remember why we celebrate and why resistance, resilience, and joy are so important. While it’s certainly necessary to fight injustice by supporting important causes, just as important is expressing ourselves meaningfully and joyfully to […] The post Feature | Producer Pride: Celebrating Queer Electronic Artists appeared first on Blisspop ..read more

On April 19th, American University’s student-run label, Second District Records, hosted a performance of several of their artists at Union Stage. Like the label itself, the performance was artistically and stylistically diverse, with artists from many different genres sharing the stage. Opening for the concert were DMV artists Mo Sella […] The post Concert Review | Second District Records Revival Show appeared first on ..read more

Review | Xxtarlit – Fleeting Frozen Heart (IHP REMIX)
Blisspop

Portland-based IHP’s new remix of Xxtarlit’s Fleeting Frozen Hearts is a pumping techno banger, the kind of song that wants to tear your head apart from the inside out. Taking Xxtarlit’s original lolicore, hyperpop-esque sound, and turning the intensity up to eleven, the remix is a powerful rework that keeps everything great about the original intact.  In the remix, drum n’ bass percussion from the original song serves as a backbone to the pounding hard techno kick, with a neurofunk […] The post Review | Xxtarlit – Fleeting Frozen Heart (IHP REMIX) appeared first on Blisspop ..read more

For a genre that’s existed for thirty years, reggaeton is undergoing massive changes to its sound. The genre, a fusion of hip-hop, dancehall, and Caribbean and Latin music has been a staple in Latin America since the 1990s: artists like Daddy Yankee, Ivy Queen, and, more recently, Bad Bunny and J Balvin have all been catapulted into the global charts. But post-pandemic, a new, electronic side of reggaeton has started to emerge, allowing the genre to push at its limits.
