BW 1354 transfer case rear output flange nut torqued, but still has play

So I found the torque for the output flange at ~160 ft-lb and was able to tighten it just to that before the engine started turning. I'm still feeling a good bit of axial play on the flange- I'm assuming it is meaning the output bearing isn't properly preloaded. My 1/2" dewalt pneumatic impact wrench tops out right around 120-150 ft-lb so I don't have an easy way to continue tightening. Get a better impact wrench? Put a breaker bar on the crankshaft for something to tighten against with... BW 1354 transfer case rear output flange nut torqued, but still has play ..read more

2002 Ford Ranger 3.0L, 6-cyl, Automatic, 85,000mi 5R55E I am in a situation here. recently I have had the o/d light flashing and screwing up my shifting from 1st to 2nd. I get rid of it by putting the transmission in neutral on the highway, turning the ignition off, then on, and changing it to drive. Fixes problem for a day or two. Code P0761. So I do some research, and I decide I want to try to fix this problem. I buy a shift solenoid and a filter w/ new gasket. I drove the truck on two... stuck in 1st after tranny flush ..read more

M5OD clutch/pilot replacement, vibration in 4th and 5th gears

I just replaced my clutch in my 2wd '88 2.3 Ranger, M5OD trans. While in there I realized the crank had NO pilot bearing installed! I never noticed much from a lack of one, I've owned the truck for 10 years, but it doesn't get alot of miles. It was buzzy, but I assumed that was the nature of the buzzy 2.3, and the solid rubber motor mounts I have. I installed a new pilot bearing along with the clutch, and while the truck is smoother all around, now I have a very serious vibration in 4th and... Has anyone found an ARP stud kit that fits a 2.9/4.0 that isn't the $400 kit from morana? I'm thinking about ordering some 12.9 hardware from mcmaster-carr to replace the TTY stuff they come with. My turbo truck keeps stretching head bolts and blowing head gaskets ..read more

1987 Ford Bronco II trans and motor

well i got a 1987 Bronco II with the Fm145 transmission and a 2.9L motor. The shifter on the transmission is broke and the only replacement I can find is a core shifter which is fine but the transmission needs and overhaul and from what I’ve seen it’s a pain in the butt plus parts don’t seem to be the easiest to find. I’ve seen a lot of people say to put a M5OD R1 my question is what are the options for vehicles/ years to pull one from? I know the Rangers used them up till then ended in... 1987 Ford Bronco II trans and motor ..read more

Help me with bumper brackets

I need to replace my rear bumper, because the face bar is rusted to pieces. What I'm trying to figure out is if I can get away with just ordering a face bar, or if I need to get the brackets. My inner brackets seem fine, but I can't figure out where/what the outer brackets even are, let alone what condition mine are in. I'm referring to part 10 on the picture below. #7 is the inner, and like I say, that's still solid and could be reused. If anybody has pictures, that would be even better... Dextron II substitute and Park Difficulty

It's time to change the transmission fluid and filter again. I'v only put 40K miles on it since it was changed last back in 2015. 87 Ranger, 2WD, A4LD atransmission. None of the current available fluids have the Dextron II on it anywhere as there are few transmissions like these left around that use Dextron II. I know there are differences in the Dextron types and have read not to mix them. I'll just be draining from the pan and replacing filter as usual. Got this photo from a Haynes manual... Full-body bilstein 5100 front shocks for a 2wd Edge

To preface, I am posting this thread here because the 2wd Edge has the frame and suspension of a 4wd ranger from its era. After having a bilstein 4600 front shock snap at the upper weld (shock body to CV-Clearance-Stick-Thingy,) I have been looking into full body shocks for my 2wd Edge. Rancho offers a shock for torsion cranked rangers, with a 19.25in extended length and a 5.28in stroke. Compare this to the b6 4600 with an extended length of 17.92in and a 4.2in stroke. These are the... Full-body bilstein 5100 front shocks for a 2wd Edge ..read more

Steering Wheel swap question
The Ranger Station Forums
by RangerReviver1990

So, I was looking at my steering wheel this morning, it’s not broken or anything but I had a question. If I buy a F-150 steering wheel, like those 2 spoke steering wheels in those classic Full-sized Trucks. Could I like go to the junkyard, take one and just stick it onto my rangers steering column? Or would I have to modify the hell out of my steering column depending on the steering wheel itself ..read more
