The Colorado Rapids looked very much like a top-seeded team during a dominant first half against the Portland Timbers on Thanksgiving Day, but that early dominance failed to produce goals and the home team wound up paying the price for that. Larrys Mabiala headed home a winning goal in the 90th minute to help the Timbers to a 1-0 victory over the Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The match was goal-less and looked destined to head to extra time before the Timbers took a corner kick that decided the match. A deflected corner kick floated into the penalty area and bounced into Mabiala’s path ..read more

The Rapids’ Saturday afternoon matchup seemed to have everything working against the home team. A brutal weather delay pushed back the Rapids’ midweek U.S. Open Cup game to Thursday, so the Rapids returned home Saturday to battle short rest, hot weather and a poor recent stretch of league form. Not to mention, Los Angeles FC, the Supporters’ Shield leaders. Yet, the Rapids defied expectations to hold LAFC to a shutout and only two shots on goal. A pair of penalty kicks seized an eventual 2-0 win, as the Rapids moved up to seventh in the conference. “I am so f–king proud of this team because ..read more

Robin Fraser’s squad fought back from an early deficit at Allianz Field to claim a 3-1 comeback victory over Minnesota United, taking advantage of their match-in-hand. It was the perfect response for the Rapids after seeing their 12-match unbeaten run snapped by the Seattle Sounders on October 3. Colorado fell down early to Adrian Heath’s side in St. Paul, but grinded its way back to score three goals in t ..read more

LAFC had been having on-and-off talks with Mark-Anthony Kaye in recent months over his future, but this week saw the team come to a resolution that led to the midfielder’s departure. In large part because the team wanted to have the type of roster budget flexibility that will allow for moves in the long term. Quite possibly in the short, too. LAFC sent Kaye on Tuesday to the Colorado Rapids in a major trade that saw the former franchise receive $1 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) and a 2022 international roster slot in return. The deal, which also saw LAFC ship a 2022 first-round MLS ..read more
