What I learned from stepping way outside my comfort zone & performing standup for the first time. If you missed the blog last week, I highly recommend reading the story of how Paula Wyatt created an event, an Empowering Night of Laughter, in honor of her late father. The night is designed to help women experience fear by performing stand-up comedy and then successfully conquer it. After growing up in comedy clubs, she realized that stand-up is not in anybody’s comfort zone and wanted to create a platform for women to do something they would prefer not to do. Last summer, I volunteered to ..read more

Paula Wyatt is everywhere. You have likely attended an event put on by Anything is Posh Able, whether you know her personally or not. I like to say they reflect the diversity of Central Florida, as she has worked with such a wide range of organizations. What you may not know is that behind the put-together party planner is a powerhouse single mother who channels her boundless energy and independent spirit into living life, finding humor, and planning events, on her terms. On Empowering Night of Laughter: Empowering Night of Laughter came as this idea that I wanted fun. It’s my favorite ni ..read more

Best ways to enjoy the solar eclipse in Central Florida

Next Monday, April 8th, a total solar eclipse will be making its way across the center of North America. Here in Central Florida, roughly 65% of the sun will be blocked by the moon and will still make for a cool celestial experience. I would plan to be outside between 1:40 p.m. and 3:30 p:m as the partial eclipse will begin to be visible at 1:46 p.m with the maximum eclipse happening just before 3:00 p.m. During last year’s partial eclipse, our family enjoyed making sidewalk shadows with our hands and seeing how different trees and leaves looked along the sidewalk. Since a portion of the sun i ..read more

Self-Care: Reclaim Your Creativity

The phrase self-care is everywhere. Getting a manicure? Brunch with the besties? Couple’s massage? Self-care! There is no one way to fill your tank. If self-care means you want to reclaim your creativity, how do we make the time? What self-care means to me For me, “Self-care” is more than just personal hygiene or friend time. It has always meant time to be creative. Over the years, that has manifested as time to be still, journal, sing, write poetry, exercise, reflect in nature, do yoga or simply spend time alone. For many, wine with friends or a massage is a wonderful way to feel pampere ..read more

When you meet Brittany Lyne, you can’t help but be curious as to what is hidden behind her sweet, almost soft spoken smile. Turns out, what is hidden is a powerhouse mama, at the helm of not only a family of three boys under 7, but a restaurant concept that has evolved as fluidly as their family. Having returned to her hometown after college, she would have never imagined herself as the owner of a restaurant – nevermind in the food industry – but she and her husband, Patrick, are shining their light in the same way they like their food: slow, steady, and with care. Welcome to Farm & Haus ..read more

By: Lindsay Chamberlin You might recognize Lindsay Chamberlin as the witty, belly-laugh inducing mama behind Confessions of a College Park Mom, a longstanding column in The Community Paper. Outside of her comedic banter and penchant for kindness, she is a mother to three boys, two dogs, and a kindergarten teacher. While I would dub her a saint for this last fact alone, Lindsay manages to infuse all aspects of her life with humor, wit, and grace. It’s not only a joy to witness, it’s infectious. For more laughs, find her on Instagram. We have no doubt you’ll love Lindsay as much as we do! Hello ..read more

March always feels like the last time I can enjoy a full day outdoors before the heat of the Florida sun has me googling indoor activities during the day. And what better way to spend time than enjoying a festival with your family? My love and appreciation for festivals has grown deeper as I’ve become a mom. I need to be strategic in that my weekends are filled with things that leave my husband and I feeling relaxed and recharged whilst also being fun for the WHOLE family! A festival just happens to be the perfect event to help us create an easy weekend because it offers the following: Time F ..read more

Honoring the Mothers of Gynecology

Rosa Parks. Harriet Tubman. Maya Angelou. These are the remarkable women so often remembered during Black History Month. But this month, let’s draw our focus on the women whose lives have made an impact on so many of us, but whose names have been forgotten, and at worse, never known. The History of Gynecology I was recently reading Angela Garbes’book titled “Like a Mother: A Feminist Journey through the Science and Culture of Pregnancy” and kept cycling through tears, anger, and shock as I read the harrowing history of gynecology in the United States. I’ll provide a quick summary but encourage ..read more
