Hi there! I am new to the forum and I was hoping someone could help me solve a feather pecking problem in my flock! About 6 months ago I got three new chickens to keep my older hen company after my other hen sadly passed away. Obviously we had the usual pecking order squabbling to start with which settled down after a few weeks, but since then we have had a low level feather pecking problem from one of the new girls (Bean), where she will often pull the other girls feathers out. This has... Chickens pecking feathers out ..read more

We had a fox visit about a month ago that killed all but one hen, little Bobette. She was clearly in shock and very nervous for afew weeks but she's now a happy healthy girl. I have heard of lone hens going downhill after being alone for a certain amount of time, we did try to get her a freind but didn't have any luck. But she's settled into her new life brilliantly and shows all the signs of being a normal hen ..read more

4 years on and after being the most tame and calm hen our Silkie has become extremely aggressive to the extent my daughter doesn’t want to come into the garden. ‘Pom Pom’ has gone from sitting on our heads as a chick and being cuddled to attacking us and seeking flesh! She is buffered around by our 6 ducks and we wondered if she’s trying to get above us in the pecking order but - although we love her - she is now making our lives a misery! She chases us and will fly/jump to bite on skin... Vicious Silkie hen ..read more
