First Time Chicken Owner- Preventative/precautionary treatments
Backyard Chickens Forum

I just got 4 laying hens from a family member today. A few of them are a little on the older side. I am wondering if there are any treatments I should do just as a precautionary measure such as deworming, adding in a mite treatment to their dust bath, giving them additional vitamins and electrolytes for the next few days, things like that. they seem to be in pretty decent condition but moving them from one place to another was definitely stressful and a few of them were getting picked on... Anyone with E. coli infection knowledge
Backyard Chickens Forum

Hello! Does anyone have any knowledge on E. coli infections in chickens? My hen has been showing symptoms of seeming distant. She eats and drinks but seems uncomfortable. Her poop is tinged green even though she has no vegetables or grass in her system for a week. I began seeing green poops since two days ago. No eggs for weeks, and she might have a possible reproductive infection. Not sure if this infection led way to another which is causing green poops. Any advice or insight on what... Hi ya’ll!! there’s not too much out there on Lavender EE’s! I was sold this baby as a sexed female from a reputable hatchery, and am not sure if I should be worried at this comb…she’s just a hair over 4 weeks old. What do you think? Noodle <3 I’d be heartbroken to have to part with her as roosters are illegal in my neighborhood ☹ thank you so so much!!! Amazing group ..read more

Dickey incubator egg turner trouble.

I recently purchased a used dickeys incubator and everything is working great except the automatic turner. The egg turner will move the trays fine in manual mode. But when I flip the switch to automatic it just moves the turner to the right one time and doesn’t turn them anymore. Is this something I can possibly fix without getting a new part, or is this an issue with the turner motor? It’s hard for me to open it up right now because I have 3 weeks worth of hatches in it so wanting to have... Read more ..read more

Direct sunlight-oops!!!

I'm hatching my second round of eggs- put them in about 72 hours ago. I put them in my bedroom this time instead of the laundry room because I wanted to be able to watch them hatch more easily. However this evening I noticed that there is direct sunlight coming in on the incubator for a couple of hours. Will the incubator regulate the temp inside or is this bad news? Could I have already killed some ..read more
