As David says, the bird was present this morning at high tide. It was around for the three hours we spent there, quite close in front of the Kuaka hide. It took flight at one point and landed back in the flock after a strong gust of wind. Still about 40 PGP around and a few are starting to colour up nicely. Great morning with lots of happy birders despite the weather!

Good to see the white heron at Huntly again, haven't seen it in a while. Only had phone with me.

Great knot again easily found in front of the Godwit Hide this morning, though it mostly kept its head tucked in while we were there. Still plenty of godwits and red knots, many colouring up well.

Great pelagic trip report/photos David. We missed Subantarctic Shearwater and Common Diving Petrel when we were there. Very interesting that you you didn't see a single prion - even a Broad-billed, which should be back breeding there now.

Had a great trip with Brent Mallinson from the Flowerpot Bay Lodge going around the islands within reach of Pitt Island last Saturday. We had a good range of birds though sadly not a single prion! Things started well when we found a Chatham Island shag just a couple of minutes out from Flowerpot Bay. It was a beautiful calm morning and we were able to pull up right beside Black Robin Bush on Mangere Island and drift slowly past, where we watched several Forbes' parakeets flying above the canopy. Also Chatham Island fantails, starlings and a couple of pipits, but unsurprisingly no black robins ..read more

Saw two BFTs with a flock of about 400 WFTs yesterday in Princess Bay close to Te Raekaihau Pt on the south Wellington coast at low tide.
Some of the WFTs had a pink wash.
