By David Hachmeister, Owner, Care & Comfort at Home for Seniors and Veterans First, let me say how grateful I am to each of you for considering Care and Comfort at Home for your in-home care needs. We started out in July of 2012 with no business and little experience. I have re-learned the value of resilience over and over again. My 70th birthday was kind of a shocker. I had decades to prepare, but nevertheless I found myself slightly surprised by my need to retire. Business and technology have changed so much that I just can’t keep up.  I have sold my business to Nat Truitt of 1776 S ..read more

By David Hachmeister, Owner, Care & Comfort at Home for Seniors and Veterans I talk to many people who are too exhausted by their care role to think about what comes next. Whether mom goes into nursing care or passes from this life, there will be an end to the struggle of caring for a loved one. However, that end is very hard to see when you are in the midst of it. I know a tragic example where a daughter had dutifully looked after mom for decades. When her mom finally passed away, the daughter was physically and emotionally spent and ended up dying not too long after her mom’s passing. Sh ..read more

By David Hachmeister, Owner, Care & Comfort at Home for Seniors and Veterans I recently got off the phone with an administrator at an assisted living community near me. I found out only yesterday that there was a new Executive Director there. This is their fourth in five years. High staff turnover is a big deal if you are looking for consistent high-quality care. High turnover, especially at the top levels, mean new directions for the community and a changing vision as to what the community is supposed to be. One of the reasons for using us at Care & Comfort at Home for Seniors and Vet ..read more

In total, 12 million people are “dually eligible” and are enrolled in both Medicaid and Medicare. By federal statute, individuals who are enrolled in both Medicaid and Medicare can be covered within bo ..read more

By Patricia LaCroix, Contributing Writer If you are an older adult who has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes — or if you care for someone who has the disease — you might be struggling with the lifestyle changes suggested by your doctor. One might very well be that of diet. Food is an important part of life. It sustains life, for sure. We couldn’t survive without it. But food can be and is so much more. It literally adds flavor to our lives. The different taste sensations can bring joy to an otherwise mundane, predictable lifestyle. Our social lives often revolve around meals as well.
