Colorful Mocktails: The Heartbreaker

While I was on a previous Summer break, I did a lot of eating and drinking. A LOT! The Home Chef Extraordinaire outdid himself with all sorts of fresh, healthy, colorful foods so you can expect to see more of his tasty recipes added to my Colorful Eats series. Somewhere in between food gorging and taste testing, I got the bright idea to experiment with spirits, mixers and garnishes to see if I could create some beverages that would live up to the very high standard set by the culinary wizard. Wine.com and other places for the ingredients for tasty libations were bookmarked and f ..read more

It's that time of year when we realize the giving season is heading our way at rapid speed. It'll be a somewhat familiar holiday time because while we are still very much aware that there are certain health precautions we still must take for the safety of everyone, a few of us will be coming together in person to celebrate our love for each other, albeit in very strategic ways.   I hope you love the products I recommend! You may have noticed that I've been M.I.A. from the blog for over a month. Life has an unpredictable flow - sometimes it moves at a snail's pace then suddenly lifts you out of your comfort zone and tosses you into unfamiliar spaces with no instruction manual. That kind of explains the last few weeks of my life. I've moved my personal and professional lives to a brand new city with brand new energy. It's been exciting and unsettling. Anyone who has moved into a new home knows that it takes a village but we only had a tiny hamlet. The adventure continues.... What is beyond me is that while ..read more

Food tastes better when it is colorful. It just does! We eat with our mouths AND eyes so what food "looks" like impacts the flavor. And there's interesting research behind this phenomenon. Whether you believe there's a color/food connection or not, think of it this way: would you even take a bite of a blue apple? Here are some colorful links to satisfy the foodie in you: 1.  I'm not sure eating square food is any healthier than eating food in it normal form but this company seems to think we need to rethink the shape of things. (DesignTaxi) 2.  If you bake, you will surel ..read more

Colorful Closet: Affordable Activewear for Colorful Workouts

Since I stopped making New Year resolutions a few years ago (my failure rate was abysmal), I’ve taken to setting goals instead, both practical and completely fantasy-driven. And I’m happy to report that I have stuck to and successfully completed many including a daily workout regimen.  The reasons I’ve stuck to working out every day for almost 3 years is because first and foremost I’m now healthier than ever at age 62 and I regularly treat myself to workout gear and activewear that I adore to help keep me motivated. Juliet in Old Navy (no longer available)   I hope you love the prod ..read more

This drink is the holiday season in a glass! I actually made this cocktail for the first time a few months ago when the weather was still warm and we were still sipping iced teas and lemonade. When I asked my taste testers to try it out, the comments I got back contained words like "festive", "christmas-y" and oddly, "ring the jingle bells".  I hope you love the products I recommend! Colorful Mocktails: Blood Orange Ginger Iced Tea

Cocktail or beverage? I'll let you decide. My Blood Orange Ginger Iced Tea is my last ditch effort to hold onto Summer for as long as possible. However there really is no reason why this drink can't work for Fall as well. Just substitute cold tea for hot. The flavors will still be refreshing and delicious! The flavor of Blood Orange is similar to the orange fruit we know and love. But there's a layer of berry-ness that gives it a richness that is almost wine-like. Ginger is a fragrant spice with a slightly peppery undertones and a sweetness that is warm and zesty. I love c ..read more

Colorful Mocktails: Blue Agave Margarita

At the time this post was written, there were 38 days until the end of the Summer season. The CALENDAR end. I'm always a little annoyed at things that have unwritten rules based on nothingness, like "don't wear white after Labor Day" or "Pumpkin Spice Lattes are Fall drinks". Who says? Who is this invisible authority figure that puts arbitrary timetables on everyday living?  Margaritas have long been associated with warmer times, beach vacations and paper umbrellas. But I'm here to break the cycle of seasonal rule domination by declaring Margaritas a colorful mocktail for all se ..read more
