The first-ever Hudson River Derby at Citi Field featured a phenomenal goal from Cameron Harper. But it also showed this was both team’s third game in eight days, with shifted rosters and unlikely heroes. New York City jumps the Red Bulls in the standings with both teams now at 23 points. Both the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC have a lot to prove this Saturday. The first edition of the Hudson River Derby this season will feature two teams on positive stretches. The Red Bulls are on a two-game winning streak and are near the top of the Eastern Conference. NYCFC is just below them, and the team has looked better after an atrocious start to 2024. But turbulence on and off the field shadowed the s ..read more

The end result might be the only notable thing from the game as both teams left with a single point each. Both Hudson River Derby rivals still sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, under the playoff line. It didn’t help that a holiday and fan apathy kept things quieter for both RBNY and NYCFC. Can NYCFC make a final Playoff Push?

The MLS regular season is back in full swing and NYCFC has ten matches left to make the playoffs this season.  The Cityzens have a full schedule this week and face three potentially playoff-bound teams in a row. The biggest question of all for this team is whether or not they can make a viable final playoff push and get themselves in the MLS Cup playoffs this fall. According to NYCFC head coach Nick Cushing, there is a viable chance that this team could in fact make the MLS Cup playoffs this fall, and of course, it is still mathematically possible.  NYCFC is sitting on an underw ..read more

Tick-tock, the clock is ticking on NYCFC. The MLS season is about to resume after the Leagues Cup final matches and the Cityzens are dwelling in the Eastern Conference basement right now. Can this squad figure out a way to salvage the season and make the playoffs this fall? This is the critical question that NYCFC fans should be asking at this point in the season.  After an inglorious exit in the Leagues Cup to their rivals the New York Red Bulls, the Cityzens hopefully have had time to heal up, stock up on what needs to get done and be ready for a final season push towards the playoffs ..read more

NYCFC has desperately been seeking some sort of “magic” to try and kick-start what’s left of the 2023 MLS season. The exit from the MLS Leagues Cup tournament highlights the fact that the Cityzen offense has stalled and this squad needs an infusion of offensive firepower. NYCFC were active traders during the transfer market and also drew upon their global City Football Group network for player additions. With only ten regular season matches remaining, NYCFC finds itself in a do-or-die situation in terms of making the MLS Cup playoffs this season.  While the match against the New York Red ..read more

RECAP: Violence Follows Red Bulls’ Leagues Cup Win Over NYCFC

On Thursday night, the New York Red Bulls eliminated New York City FC from the Leagues Cup. An Omir Fernandez penalty kick gave RBNY the 1-0 win over their rivals in the impromptu Hudson River Derby. The fans at Red Bull Arena were mostly well-behaved during the match. However, following the game, multiple violent clashes permeated outside. This came despite it being the second lowest-attended match between the two teams (11,004). Last Minute Transfers – can they breathe life back into NYCFC?

NYCFC is out of the Leagues Cup competition and their attacking third is a primary reason for many of this season’s failures. Will the last-minute transfers help the Pigeons find some life in their offense before it’s too late? Adios, Leagues Cup.  NYCFC exited this interesting tournament on Wednesday night against their local rival the New York Red Bulls in another leg of the Hudson River Rivalry this season. In case you’ve watched any of these Leagues Cup matches around North America over the past couple of weeks, they’ve been quite entertaining with the penalty kick match resoluti ..read more

Has NYCFC Made the Best of Leagues Cup, So far?

How are you enjoying the Leagues Cup so far? Last week I asked if any NYCFC fans were interested in this brand-new tournament, and so far, it’s been a bit of an eye-opener. Regardless of what’s going on in the Leagues Cup, the Pigeons will still have to wait another three weeks to get the show back on the road, so this time could be considered “reconsolidation” or “rebuilding” time. Nevertheless, MLS doesn’t just stop in the middle of the season; there are plenty of NYCFC news and notes to discuss. Has NYCFC made the best of the Leagues Cup so far? Dropping a tough 1-0 loss to Liga MX side Atl ..read more

Should NYCFC care about the Leagues Cup?
New York Sports Nation » New York City FC
by Mike Gambill

In a nod to my fellow NYCFC site Hudson River Blues, maybe Pigeons fans need to take a hard look at the 2023 Leagues Cup that has swept over Major League Soccer.  After all, this will be the only MLS action fans can look forward to for the next month as it presents itself as a hiatus from the normal seasonal grind that every MLS squad faces during the dog days of summer.  The real question is should NYCFC care about the Leagues Cup? What is the Leagues Cup? The 2023 Leagues Cup is essentially a new invention and a partnership between Liga MX and MLS to entice teams from all ..read more
