It’s official – the 2022 convergence is a go! For those of you who have wished to learn more about the trade, meet other tinsmiths, coppersmiths, and some blacksmiths who have been doing their craft for many many years, this is your goldmine. From tool swap and pattern swap to workshops, classes, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences, you cannot find a better way to learn a ton and mingle with other like-minded individuals in two days. It’s not terribly expensive ($25/family) to attend the convergence, with another small fee to get the pass into Sauder Village (which is where the event will ..read more

Colonial Williamsburg’s Craft & Forge Artisan Exchange x House Beautiful

It was an absolute thrill to be selected as one of the first three artisans (and all of us woman!) to participate in Colonial Williamsburg’s new artisan exchange, going by the name Craft & Forge! We all met and spent several days on the Colonial Williamsburg campus, working with their on-site makers, builders, historians, and artisans as well as mingling together and discussing our trades. I went with Julia, one of my friends who is also an industrial designer and who designs my cookware so it can be read by a CNC machine and tools built to match the plan! We had a total blast – even spend ..read more

I was thrilled to be part of the Midwest Home magazine this season – they created a LOVELY photo spread of all kinds of made-by-hand and other local items of artisans around our “flyover states” (we like to keep them that way!). To be honest, I have already ordered some of the items on these pages for myself. Head to newsstands today to pick up a copy – or enjoy some of the digital pieces they offer HERE! Happy (local) holiday shopping ..read more

Food52 Article on Cast Iron
House Copper & Cookware

I was extremely excited to be included in this article on cast iron (because hey, I have cast iron and season a lot of it here at House Copper!) with Food52! And we all know cast iron is a kitchen staple. Read on! Confession: I have a cast-iron problem. Once I found them intimidating (why are they so heavy?), but now I can’t get enough of them. Whether searing salmon or baking cookies, cast-iron pans and skillets are a kitchen necessity—one that’s been making a comeback with many chefs in recent years. “When I pull out the cast iron, the kids know we’re having something a littl ..read more

Just in time for my birthday, a lovely article in Forbes hit – with thanks to Alison, the writer, who lives in the UK and w who I live vicariously through when she posts all the windswept moors and duns on her feed. I feel like a serious, official business person now that this has happened!! Exciting and grateful! Check out the article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisoncoleman/2021/05/10/the-novelist-turned-coppersmith-on-a-mission-to-save-a-heritage-trade/?sh=350b8c154cef ..read more

You know it’s all about that egg, right? Well, it is spring. And I do have chickens. And one of the things I miss most by living a Nutritarian lifestyle is not being able to have eggs every single day. Because I love them. So when I was asked to provide an egg recipe for the Epoch Times, I pulled out a family egg salad recipe, and had an excuse to make some (and eat some) as well as take some yummy photos. This recipe also has a family “secret” ingredient – Beau Monde seasoning. Go look for it. Put it on egg salad, potato salad, tuna salad, chicken salad. You’re welcome. For the article (and ..read more

Our Wisconsin & WPR’s Larry Meiller Show

This first quarter had a double-hitter of some happy news spots! I was super fortunate to be interviewed by my dear friend Jim Peck for Our Wisconsin Magazine, and the article is so warm and juicy and happy, that would have been enough right there! But then Mike, the editor of Our Wisconsin, went on WPR (Wisconsin Public Radio) and chatted with host Larry Meiller about copper smithing and everything in between! I honestly had no idea that was going to happen, so it was a second happy thing – how lucky is that? I think one of my favorite things though, is in the article, Jim describes me as…ex ..read more

Blog Update

Hi everyone! As 2021 continues to roll in, I wanted to let you all know that I’m taking a hiatus from writing regular blog posts. Not because I don’t have anything more to say (you know I always have LOTS to say) about copper, cookware, cooking, and more – but because I simply have too much to do in the metal shop these days (plus keeping up with the family, etc). I’ll still post occasionally – especially if there’s some fun media placements, but if you want to keep up with me, I do post regularly, several times a week, on Instagram. You can find me @housecopper and the posts there are like mi ..read more

House Copper & Cookware

Well, I don’t think many people will be sad to see 2020 go, and this year’s pandemic, impromptu homeschooling, broken foot, and other disappointments won’t be missed. But I also know there have been amazing friendships forged, new business alliances created, more creativity put on the page, books launched, and memories made. It’s still a wonderful life. Stay safe, be well, and see you in the new year ..read more
