Did you know May is Mental Health Month? We decided to create these T-shirts to support our local community resource in honor of Mental Health Month. Mint green is the official color and it feels right to kick off this very hot and beautiful spring weather! As women, we know that taking care of our mind, body, and spirit is important and we want to share that with our followers. GRG co-founders are Christian women, so we know that some things are out of our control and have adopted the mantra “Let Go and Let God” as a way to make it through uncertain times. We plan to donate our T-shirt sale ..read more

This month, Grand Rapids Girl sat down (virtually) to learn about the new coffee company in town, Bloom & Grow Coffee, and the mission behind the new local endeavor.  Bloom & Grow is more than just a coffee company. In fact, selling coffee is just the vehicle for a bigger purpose, which is to serve a particular community of women in need.  Meet Megan & Abby The Mission At the start, founder Abby Nelson saw a need and knew she wanted to help. Recently a new business called The Notorious Potato Company GR contacted us to give them a try… I have to admit…I originally assumed I’d be tasting some sort of baked potato with toppings. When I went to their Instagram page I saw photos of beautiful looking pastries! My curiosity was sure to peak at that moment. There were berries, creme, and even chocolate in these interesting looking pastries!  A few days later, I picked up not just one, but 4 beautiful pastries to try, including a special gift just for us How can I eat it when it looks so beautiful? We asked Igor to share his story a ..read more

How Adored Boutique Rose to the Challenge Facing Small Businesses in Grand Rapids

When COVID went down, we had a choice at Adored Boutique. Rest in the negative, or rise to the challenge and figure out how to show up. For me, the plight of the vulnerable people we seek to empower through our buying and giving were foremost in my thinking, closely followed by the faithful women who support this small business.     I asked myself, how does our business, determined to be non-essential, show up in a non-salesy way to support my people AND, at the same time, not lose everything we have been building for the last 3 years?  Adored Boutique Gift Sets My inspiration ..read more

Hey there! My name is Rachel Garant, otherwise known as The Second Hand Stylist. My goal is to empower women through their wardrobe, helping them become eco-friendly while feeling their best.  I moved to Grand Rapids two years ago and instantly fell in love. I was inspired by the many women entrepreneurs in the community and got the courage to launch The Second Hand Stylist.  I started my blog last June after deciding to be more vocal about my love of second hand shopping and sustainable fashion. I wanted to use my voice and any influence I had to erase the negative stigma around se ..read more

To say that life has changed since the Coronavirus would be a massive understatement! In other words, Grand Rapids residents have had to adjust to a life that we never imagined. We are locked down and sheltered at home. Schools are online through the end of the year. Restaurants, small businesses, churches are all closed. Life as we know it will never be the same. We no doubt will certainly feel the aftershock for months (probably years) to come. However, times like these also bring out the best in people. For instance, over the past few weeks, we’ve witnessed businesses and charities alike mo ..read more

People start running for a lot of reasons. There’s a lot of reasons to run. Some run for general health, some to lose weight, some so they can eat more food, some to challenge themselves, some just feel like it… via GIPHY I started running initially to lose weight. Let’s talk about The Commons. Hats off to their team and coming up with a solid mid-century vibe in a very, very cool neighborhood on Cherry Street. Can I say that I love this as a proud Generation X-er?  The Commons is a throwback to Mom’s cooking with a vintage vibe. When you walk in the first thing you see is a black, rotary phone that will bring you back to your Grandma’s house in no time.
