The Vegas Golden Knights become the first expansion franchise in a major North American sport to play its way into a championship series the conventional way. The Golden Knights beat Winnipeg 2-1 to win the NHL's Western Conference and advance to the Stanley Cup Final against the Washington Capitals. As many expansion teams do—regardless of the sport—Vegas played with a chip on its collective shoulder, calling itself the “Golden Misfits.” The Capitals would finally put an end to the fairytale season by taking the series from Vegas four games-to one ..read more

The Edmonton Oilers waited an entire season for the opportunity presented to them in Game 5 of the Western Conference Second Round at Rogers Arena on Thursday, and again came up short. A 3-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks has the Oilers on the brink of elimination, down 3-2 in the best-of-7 series, just like they were in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs before they bowed out to the Vegas Golden Knights in six games in the second round. The Oilers need to win Game 6 against the Canucks at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Saturday (8 p.m. ET; CBC, TVAS, SN, ESPN) to force Game 7 here Monday ..read more

Dallas Stars coach Pete DeBoer had so many emotions to process after a Game 7 victory over his former team. There were those mixed feelings still from last year, when the Vegas Golden Knights beat Dallas in the Western Conference Final and that team for which he had such a great affection went on to win its first Stanley Cup. After losing those first two games at home, the Stars came back to win a tight series ..read more

It's rare for the Vegas Golden Knights to be focusing on their offseason this early, but after being eliminated by the Dallas Stars in Game 7 of their first round series, it's time for them to look ahead. Despite having an eventful trade deadline where the Golden Knights acquired Tomas Hertl, Noah Hanifin and Anthony Mantha, they still managed to retain their first-round pick for 2024. Based on their first round exit, their pick will slot in at 19th overall. With the Vegas Golden Knights season coming to an end a little earlier than had been hoped, it presents my annual opportunity to look back on the bold prognostications I made back in September and see how clear my crystal ball was. In the end, I was right to believe that the Golden Knights would take a step back in their Stanley Cup title defense season – I didn't go far enough. A second-place finish in the Pacific Division would've still netted Vegas home-ice advantage in the playoffs and a more favorable match-up than the top-seeded Dallas Stars ..read more

The reigning Champs came close but were unable to take care of business in Game 7 as they fell short to the Dallas Stars. It's worth reiterating because frankly, if you don't follow the Western Conference closely, it may come as a surprising reminder that Vegas was technically a wildcard team with the Stars finishing the regular season first in the Conference. No doubt a tough straw for Dallas to draw in terms of a first round opponent. Vegas wasted no time reminding everyone who the defending Champs were as it only took Mark Stone 83 seconds to find the back of the net ..read more
