Ejectors, the only moving part on the die

Featured in the Cutting Edge magazine in Vol. 41, No. 3 – March 2023 Steel rule cutting dies primarily consist of three components: wood, steel cutting rule, and ejectors. Have you ever thought about the only moving part on the die and how choosing the right ejector is key to the performance of the die? Ejectors are traditionally referred to in a generic term as the “rubber” or the “rubbering” on the die, and they act like a mechanical spring when compressed and decompressed. The function of any ejector is to cleanly lift the cut substrate from the cutting rule… READ THE FULL ARTICLE The post ..read more

Die ejection elastomers from Monroe Rubber and Plastic are specifically engineered, manufactured, tested, and proven to increase speed, extend die life, and prevent crush where necessary in all die applications. When it comes to recycled board, we recommend the following products to prevent crush: 10000 Series The challenges with recycled board continue to push us to develop products to meet your required standards. Up until now, our 22000 and 12000 Series have been the perfect pairing, but we weren’t satisfied. We wanted one product that did it all– crush-free product ejection, good scrap eli ..read more

Ejection Rubber Dilemma
Monroe Rubber & Plastic

For years we’ve been using the durometer as the preferred method of selecting different types of ejection rubber. This type of measurement might help compare one kind of rubber/elastomer to another, but it does not tell us how well it will perform on a die. The proper comparison method to use in determining which type of elastomer would work best on a particular die is a test method called Compression/Deflection, not durometer. Let me explain: Using the Durometer Measurement Process Durometer is the measurement of firmness, or surface tension, of a compressible material. There are nine primary ..read more

OUR PRODUCTS ARE ENGINEERED AND DESIGNED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE DIEMAKING AND DIECUTTING INDUSTRY. In 1995 Monroe Rubber & Plastic released the first ejection material made specifically for the diecutting industry, Green G’rilla. Two years later in 1997, Red Rhino was developed to be the perfect pairing for use on flat dies. Fast forward to today and that same ingenuity that led Monroe to create specific products for die ejection over 20 years ago has not wavered at all. In fact, it has only increased. Monroe Rubber & Plastic has sophisticated, state-of-the-art equipment for manufacturing ..read more

THE MOST FORGIVING PRODUCT AVAILABLE TODAY FOR CHALLENGING JOBS WHERE CRUSH IS A CONCERN. Closed cell rubber is made up of…well…closed cells or in other words, bubbles. When on a die and it compresses through the nip, many of the bubbles or cells pop which causes the rubber to shrink in height. Our new 12000 Series elastomer has more than 17 times the elasticity of standard gray closed cell. This allows for more stretching of the cells which drastically reduces or eliminates the chance for the cells to pop which results in a longer life on the die and more consistency in the ejection force thr ..read more

Polyurethane: It ain’t the old diemakers rubber anymore. It is no secret the manufacturers of die cutting equipment are on a full out mission to create die cutting machines that are faster and more accurate than anything from the past. For those customers investing in these new machines, it is imperative that the tooling used in them is made with the proper components to take full advantage of this boost in productivity. Certainly, the board and rule are key components to making a good die however in this article we are going to focus solely on the only moving part of a die, the ejection mater ..read more

History of Monroe Rubber & Plastic

Monroe Rubber & Plastic Supply Co. started in business over forty years ago at a time when the original company was an industrial supply house and the owner, Dan Valmassei saw the potential to branch out into another business venture. As a sideline, the company began to purchase rubber from outside sources and die cut it into shapes in the back of the warehouse. The cut shapes were used as an ejection material and sold to die makers in the packaging industry. The business expanded until we were forced to erect a new facility in 1993. The new manufacturing facility was named Monroe Rubber ..read more
