Why Do I Do This To Myself?

Last week, the Detroit Pistons tied the all-time losing streak record at 28 games with an overtime loss to the Boston Celtics. They managed to break that streak two nights later against a shell-shocked Toronto Raptors squad that had just traded one of their best players in OG Anunoby earlier that same day, but there was no avoiding the obvious. This is one of, if not THE worst team in NBA history. There is no such thing as a “winnable” game for this squad right now, only slightly differing scales of heartbreak and rage for a fanbase that has gone 15 years without seeing a single playoff victo ..read more

Photo: Zariq Turner/Bully Ball The Pistons have struggled to maintain a healthy roster throughout the first month of the 2023-24 season. Injuries to key players such as Bojan Bogdanovic and Jalen Duren have played a role in derailing a season set with higher expectations, while injuries to anticipated rotation players Monte Morris and Isaiah Livers haven’t helped either. That being said, it does appear the team is finally starting to get a bit healthier, and reinforcements should be on the way soon. Here’s what we know about each injured player’s current status: Isaiah Livers After missin ..read more

Should the Pistons Trade for Zach LaVine?

Trading for Zach LaVine (right) would certainly make the Pistons better, but at what cost? (via NBA.com) There comes a point in an NBA team’s rebuild where a consolidation move is the necessary next step. The Cleveland Cavaliers trading for Donovan Mitchell or the Minnesota Timberwolves acquiring Rudy Gobert are recent instances, where a rebuilding organization cashes in some of its assets to get a galvanizing star. The Detroit Pistons should be nearing that moment, and a star has reportedly become available that fits their needs.  Zach LaVine, who is in his seventh season with the Chicag ..read more

Photo: Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports After just 13 games, it’s not a stretch to call the Pistons season a disappointment. From injuries to key players such as Bojan Bogdanovic, to underperformance from expected stars in Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey, to an ill-fitting roster that Detroit’s new coaching staff has struggled to find answers for, it’s been difficult to find too many bright spots in Motown. That’s not to say there have been none, however. Fifth-overall pick Ausar Thompson appears to be on track to being a mainstay in All-Defensive teams for the next decade, and fellow rookie Marc ..read more

The Pistons and Rockets is a Tale of Two Rebuilds
Palace of Pistons
by anguilanom22

At one point, there was a duality in the rebuilds of the Houston Rockets and the Detroit Pistons. Both teams were coming off of playoff-centered aspirations, with wavering levels of success. Both teams stripped down their rosters by trading away or releasing veterans. Both teams had several top draft picks at their disposal and created a young core to hopefully catapult them into the next era. Both teams had myriad cap space over several offseason, with opportunities to build upon the young core. And both teams lost a ton of basketball games heading into the 2023-2024 campaign.  Yet, the ..read more

Isaiah Stewart and Killian Hayes Have One Last Chance to Salvage the Detroit Pistons’ 2020 Draft
Palace of Pistons
by Dylan Edenfield

This season will determine the NBA futures of Isaiah Stewart and Killian Hayes – and how we remember the Detroit Pistons’ 2020 draft. When the Detroit Pistons hired Troy Weaver as general manager in June 2020, the franchise was in turmoil, to say the least. Former franchise center Andre Drummond had just been shipped to the Cleveland Cavaliers for peanuts, and the team was mostly void of encouraging young talent – or talent, period – heading into the 2020 NBA Draft. During the lowest period in the Pistons’ storied history, almost any move Weaver made would have been viewed as a victory as the ..read more
