Damsel in Detroit

I cannot believe we’re more than halfway through November. Time has been such a strange concept this year! For those of you that know me, you know I absolutely LOVE the holiday season. And although I know things are going to look a lot different this year in terms of gathering, I still am putting in the effort to make sure I’m in the holiday spirit. My tree is up, I’ve been listening to a bunch of Christmas music, and have even started buying a few gifts already. Trying not to have a repeat of last year when I was buying things at the last minute! Lol. Speaking of gifts, do you or have you ev ..read more

When I Think of Home
Damsel in Detroit

Had a fun beach day in St. Joseph, MI back in August! Disclaimer: The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has sponsored this blog post.  For me, home is not only where the heart is, but it’s where the Great Lakes, Belle Isle, Coney Islands, and the Avenue of Fashion are, too. I’ve lived in Michigan my entire life, but something about living here as an adult feels even more special. I may be saying this because it’s the only place I’ve lived, but the Mitten has always felt like home to me. As I talked about in my blog post about community, I had a great foundation in the ..read more

What Community Means to Me

Disclaimer: The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has sponsored this blog post.  Backyard birthday parties were always a big deal for me growing up! When I think about the neighborhood I grew up in, the famous line from the "Cheers" theme song always pops into my head: "Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name/ and they're always glad you came." On my block, we had a strong sense of community. We all looked out for one another, my brothers and I had play dates with the kids around our age groups, we exchanged gifts on holidays and birthdays, and our annua ..read more

COVID-19: How MSHDA Can Help

Disclaimer: The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has sponsored this blog post.  Forty-eight days. That’s how long I’ve been in the house since the stay-at-home order has taken place. It’s a surreal feeling, being cooped up inside like this. And while I am grateful to have a home where I can complain about being cooped up in, one of the harsh realities of this is that there are so many people within the city and state that don’t.  It has been reported that there are around 2,100 people experiencing chronic homelessness in Detroit. That’s 2,100 people that didn’t h ..read more

Closing day! Disclaimer: The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has sponsored this blog post. Hello there!  If you’ve read a blog post from me before or have met me in passing, you probably already know this, but for those of you that are new here – my name is Evann, and I’m a Detroit native (and obviously very proud of it)! I’ve been a Midwesterner my whole life, and I think that my foundation in Detroit and time spent as a college student in East Lansing (Go Green! Go White!) have shaped me into the woman that I am today.  I studied journalism and fashion design ..read more

Stratford Girls Trip: Day 3
Damsel in Detroit
by Evann Webb

Picture Day! Our final day in Stratford was a little different than the previous two. We started the day off with a summer-inspired photo shoot! Liz asked all of us to wear bright colors so that the photos would really pop. Everyone looked so cute! I wore a sparkly yellow Eloquii dress that screamed “summertime fine” in my opinion, lol. I paired it with some simple black Target heels and the new bag I got from Wills & Prior the day before. I love taking pictures, so of course this was an enjoyable experience for me! We probably snapped over 100 individual and group photos. And they came o ..read more

From left to right: Our tour guide Cathy, Alleigh, Anne, Grace and Sarah. If you didn’t go shopping on a girls trip, did you even really go on a girls trip? Lol. Our second day in Stratford was another busy one, but of course it was filled with even more delicious food! Edison’s Café Bar Our day started at Edison’s Café Bar for breakfast. It’s a whole foods café that’s owned by another husband and wife team, Buffy Illingworth and Greg Keupfer. The interior is very quaint, and has a subtle industrial type of vibe. The walls are exposed brick and there were some black accents throughout the spa ..read more

From left to right: Liz, Alleigh, Grace, Anne and Sarah. There are few things better than a good girls trip. Seriously, think about it: you get to travel and experience a bunch of new things with your gal pals, eat delicious food and have refreshing cocktails, shop, and you don’t have to worry about anything or anyone else for a few days! This past weekend, I got to travel to Stratford, Ontario with five other Michigan bloggers: Liz (@withwonderandwhimsy), Anne (@curlsandcontours), Grace (@colorandgrace), Sarah (@sarahbrithinee) and Alleigh (@alleighchrzan). We spent three days and two nights ..read more

A mattress is one of those things that most people take for granted. It’s like it falls under that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” rule. If you can still fall asleep and wake up on it, you’re good! Sure, you can’t always tell with the naked eye that something is wrong with your mattress, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not time to consider getting a new one. I decided it was time to invest in a new mattress after that horrible experience I had in Southfield last summer. There was no way that mattress was coming into my new place, lol. Aside from all of that, though, I was constantly complai ..read more

My friends and family know that I love to host parties. Last summer I hosted the most beautiful backyard dinner party, and over the holiday season I had my housewarming and a Christmas karaoke party. To me, you really set the tone for your event with the invite. For all of my parties, I put my “graphic design” skills to use on Canva and made cute little invitations that I sent to each person via text. I like for people to know that I take my hosting very seriously, so I tend to go all out! While text invitations are super convenient for my generation, sometimes there’s nothing like receiving ..read more
