Check out this short Ted Talk for interesting facts and reasons why shopping at your local farmers market is important. It’s a U.S. talk but still relevant to us here in Canada, perhaps even more so, since we have less local options and import a significant amount of our produce and other foods from the USA and beyond. Thus, food security is an even greater issue for us. Here is speaker Mohammad Modarres’ profile on Ted.com Enjoy! Hi Everyone, As most of you know, we’ve had our business, Bob the Dog for almost 3 years now and it truly has been a labour of love. Running your own business is an 8 day a week kind of thing, and if you didn’t love it, you simply wouldn’t do it. Our business is primarily based on the support of customers at Farmers Markets across the Lower Mainland, and we’ve been so lucky to get into some of the very best markets out there. Health regulations changed last week to no longer allow non-essential food vendors to participate in the remaining dates of the year – so just like that, our Christmas se ..read more

We asked Artisan vendor, Katerina Klimes, to tell us about herself and her business. Here’s what she had to say: I am a  Confident Chameleon! I was born in Prague, under the communist hammer. At the age of 7 we took a holiday, and escaped under the watchful eye of semi-automatics over the Yugoslavian border.  We spent a few months in a true refugee camp, and a year and a half in refugee housing. We learned German and started anew. I saw my father after 2 years, when he was released by the communists.  We got into Canada because my amazing Babi sponsored us in 1984: we started a ..read more
