There’s been plenty of surprises already in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 2023-24 regular season. Rookies Chet Holmgren and Cason Wallace’s immediate assimilation, the team’s second-ranked net rating or that they’re the 2-seed in the Western Conference, all of which wasn’t expected prior to the season. But nothing has been more surprising than the team’s sudden hot-streak from beyond the ever-important 3-point line. Traditionally, Oklahoma City hasn’t worried about drafting shooters. Their recent philosophy has involved do-it-all players with length and versatility. And shooting fits into that ..read more

There is one team in the NBA to rank in the top five in both offense and defense.  To an avid watcher of the league, the easy answer might be the Boston Celtics. Between Jrue Holiday and Jayson Tatum on defense and Jaylen Brown, Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis on offense, they're loaded. Other teams do make strong cases, but it seems that Boston has the best shot at being that team. But it's not. That honor belongs to the Oklahoma City Thunder, which is currently No. 5 in both categories. It might come as a surprise to those not paying close attention to the recent successes of the NBA's sec ..read more

The rookie has provided an instant impact on the Oklahoma City Thunder after making his NBA debut this season. On Saturday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder took down the Dallas Mavericks in a thrilling 126-120 game that saw multiple lead changes in the fourth quarter.  While most of the team's starters weren't as sharp as usual on offense, a strong showing from OKC's bench helped the Thunder secure their 13th victory of the season.  In the chaos that was a wild second half at the American Airlines Center, it may get lost in the shuffle that third-year guard Josh Giddey logged less than four minutes in the second half against the Mavericks.  With around eight minutes and 15 seconds left i ..read more

After two straight losses to the Sixers and the Timberwolves, the Thunder desperately needed to bounce back. That’s exactly what they did against the Lakers and the Mavericks, knocking off two Western Conference foes that are battling for playoff spots and re-securing the No. 2 seed. The entire team showed up and different players stepped up each game. But it was Jalen Williams who made the difference both times, once again looking like an impact player. The Oklahoma City Thunder is one of the most intriguing teams in the NBA. Last season, they made a statement. They played in a very unique style, getting an incredible amount of paint touches while playing small, fast lineups. With a set offensive identity, the immersion of Chet Holmgren and Cason Wallace as rookies this season has been made easier. What was unique about Holmgren as a draft prospect in the 2022 NBA Draft is that he's a "unicorn." He's a 7-footer with forward talents and elite rim protection and overall stout defense.  Still, no one could have predicted how seamlessly Holm ..read more

What made the victory even more impressive, however, was the fact that Oklahoma City allowed a 30-0 in the fourth quarter, yet still rallied to win the contest.  With just over 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter, it appeared that OKC had run away with the game as the Thunder led 111-87. Dallas, however, didn't back down and were able to ..read more

The Oklahoma City Thunder survived a scare in Dallas following a fourth-quarter collapse. The Thunder beat the Dallas Mavericks 126-120 after giving up a 30-0 run in the final frame. The run began after the Thunder took a big lead early in the quarter. Kenrich Williams’ 3-pointer gave the Thunder a 24-point lead before the Mavericks scored 30 unanswered. In that stretch, Luka Doncic and Seth Curry caught fire from outside while the Thunder struggled to find offense, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander facing a double team every possession. Dereck Lively II also played a huge role for Dallas, finishin ..read more
