On Monday, May 6, at 3:44 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 75 and 320th Street, two miles west of Hull, IA. Julie Huisman, age 53, of Rock Rapids, IA, was driving a 2015 GMC Acadia northbound on Highway 75. Carey Van Donselaar, age 55, of Sioux Center, IA, was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse westbound on 320th Street. Have you seen this Ford Explorer? This driver of this vehicle failed to stop for a stopped school bus on Friday, May 3, at 3:25 p.m. This vehicle was traveling northbound on K-30 toward Rock Valley. On Sunday, May 5, at 7:58 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jose Hernandez-Ortiz, age 25, of Sioux Center, IA. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred in Sioux Center. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Hernandez-Ortiz’ driving privilege was Revoked. Hernandez-Ortiz is also a registered sex offender and is required to register any vehicle that he operates; it was determined that Hernandez-Ortiz had failed to register the vehicle he was operating at the time of the stop. Hinton woman arrested near Sioux Center after riding on train from Sioux City – May 3

On Friday, May 3, at 12:46 a.m.,  the Sioux County Sheriffs Office arrested Shannon Heckler, age 46, of Hinton IA. The arrest stemmed from a report from Heckler, who called 911, to report that she was riding on a northbound BNSF Railway train car north of Sioux Center. IA. Sioux County Communications contacted the BNSF Railway who was able to contact the train crew to stop the train near Sioux Center; officers were able to locate Heckler. On Saturday, April 27, at 6:27 a.m.,  the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Karla Bohle, age 59, of Hudson, SD. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Eagle Avenue, three miles north of Ireton, IA. Bohle was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler northbound on Eagle Avenue when she lost control of the vehicle, entered the east ditch and rolled. Bohle was transported by the Ireton Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Healthcare for treatment of minor injuries. The Jeep sustained approximately $8,000 in damage. On Wednesday, April 24, at 9:20 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on 360th Street, 10 miles southwest of Rock Valley, IA. Tamara Steen, age 32, of Hawarden, IA, was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima eastbound on 360th Street when she struck a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. On Saturday, April 20, at 4:18 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested, Angel Manuel, age 24, Remsen, IA. The arrest stemmed from a pursuit that began when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high speed on Jackson Avenue north of Orange City, IA; the vehicle continued eluding the deputy, driving southbound on various streets through Orange City, eventually stopping on the south end of Orange City. On Saturday, April 20, at 11:42 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Santos Chilel-Lopez, age 34, of Huron, SD. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred on 400th Street, four miles east of Sioux Center, IA. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Chilel-Lopez provided the deputy with false identification information; it was also discovered that Chilel-Lopez’ driver’s license was suspended, and that he had an active arrest warrant out of Sioux County for a violation of probation. On Friday, April 19, 2024, at approximately 10:12 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and 470th Street, one mile south of Orange City, IA. Guillermo Gonzalez, age 20, of Fremont, NE, was driving a 2018 Toyota Camry northbound on Jackson Avenue. Angelina Nelson, age 17, of Alton, IA, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Jackson Avenue behind Gonzalez.
