On Saturday, April 20, at 11:42 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Santos Chilel-Lopez, age 34, of Huron, SD. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred on 400th Street, four miles east of Sioux Center, IA. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Chilel-Lopez provided the deputy with false identification information; it was also discovered that Chilel-Lopez’ driver’s license was suspended, and that he had an active arrest warrant out of Sioux County for a violation of probation. On Friday, April 19, 2024, at approximately 10:12 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and 470th Street, one mile south of Orange City, IA. Guillermo Gonzalez, age 20, of Fremont, NE, was driving a 2018 Toyota Camry northbound on Jackson Avenue. Angelina Nelson, age 17, of Alton, IA, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Jackson Avenue behind Gonzalez. On Monday, April 15, at 10:48 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Chestnut Avenue, five miles east of Rock Valley, IA. Wyatt Timmer, age 16, of Alcester, SD, was driving a 2017 Ford Focus northbound on Chestnut Avenue when he reported that an unknown make or model pickup traveling southbound on Chestnut Avenue entered his lane, causing him to swerve. On Monday, April 15, at 4:00 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 18, one mile east of Hull, IA. Emily Miranda, age 28, of Alton, IA, was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima eastbound on Highway 18. Colton Van Beek, age 21, of Rock Valley, IA, was driving a 2011 Ford F-350 eastbound on Highway 18 behind Miranda when Miranda slowed for traffic ahead that was turning left onto a farm residence driveway. On Sunday, April 14, at 11:34 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on 370th Street, six miles north of Orange City, IA. Brady Covey, age 33, of Hull, IA, was driving a 2016 Ford Pickup eastbound on 370th Street when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a large landscaping rock and white cross on private property.
