Atlanta United Football Club is in shambles. In the span of a week, they managed to play three games in the MLS is Back tournament, scoring 0 goals and netting 0 points. The last 1-0 defeat in the tournament occurred on Tuesday, July 21st, and by Friday, July 24th, second season head coach Frank de Boer was packing his bags as the club announced they would be parting ways with him. Stephen Glass, head coach of Atlanta’s second team, will take over in an interim position until a new manager is selected. Now that we are all caught up let’s look a little deeper into some of this. Post Match Analysis: Columbus Crew 1 Atlanta United 0

If you’re an Atlanta United fan, it probably hasn’t set in yet that your team has played three games and gained zero points. Not only is it crazy to think about, it’s pathetic, especially considering one of those losses was to possibly the weakest team in the league, FC Cincinnati.  In their third and now final game in the MLS is Back tournament, Atlanta United again put in another less than stellar performance in a loss to Columbus Crew Tuesday night. Atlanta is now officially the only team to fail to net a goal in the tournament, and are one of a few so far to fail to win a game. It’s a ..read more

If you didn’t watch this game live, consider it a blessing. For the second time in a row Thursday morning, Atlanta United fell by a score of 1-0, in another disgusting loss that no Atlanta fan saw coming. Frankie Amaya’s banger of a goal in the 76th minute was enough to lift Cincy over a pitiful 9-man Atlanta United who once again could not find the back of the net. The five stripes now find themselves alone at the bottom of the group after two games, with a whopping total of 0 points, scoring a grand total of 0 goals. Now, I know this is a tournament for everyone to get their feet wet in comp ..read more

Match Analysis New York Red Bulls 1, Atlanta United 0

It’s been a long four months, a really long four months. However, the absence of live sports is over, and we are getting back to normal little by little. Unfortunately, Atlanta United returned to their normal, losing once again to the New York Red Bulls by a score of 1-0. If I’m honest, the game was ugly and extremely tough to watch. The rust of four months of no action reared its ugly head a bit more than I had expected in what felt like a preseason match. The game’s only goal occurred in the fourth minute when Florian Valot received a pass with no one around him in the middle of the field, w ..read more

The wait is almost over. Yes, we have been without sports for months, sitting in misery, and wondering how we will survive this brutal pandemic. Through all this, MLS fans especially deserve praise due to the fact we all watched our respective teams play two games and then stood in anguish as the season was suspended. However, that’s all behind us now, and we are most definitely going to be rewarded. Last week the MLSPA and the MLS agreed on a tournament to kick the season back off in July. Now, we have a CONFIRMED kick-off tournament for Major League Soccer starting on July 8 and running thro ..read more

Atlanta United: MLS Avoids Lockout; Let’s Play!

It came close, REALLY close, but there will be no lockout in the MLS this year as the MLSPA finalized a deal that will extend to the 2025 season. This means major league soccer will be back on the field sooner rather than later, and for that, I think we can all be just a little happier as we continue to live without the majority of live sports on TV. More importantly, we get to see the five stripes back on the pitch soon, and if you aren’t ready to wave a flag for 90 minutes and sing from your living room, something may be wrong with you. One of the most intriguing aspects of the deal is a sup ..read more

Atlanta United: The rise of soccer in Atlanta

Football is king in the south. I know it, you know it, we all know it, and honestly, a soccer team in Atlanta doesn’t sound like a fantastic idea. A city bathed with love for their Falcons, Braves, and Hawks; it was perceived that Atlanta United would be an afterthought. Even though soccer is the most popular sport outside of America, the beautiful game still has not found its way to the popularity of the three “American Sports.” But that hasn’t been the case in Atlanta, where there has been honestly a shocking rise of the sport in such a short time. In just three short years, the five stripes ..read more
