We celebrate Mother’s Day to honor our mothers, grandmothers, (maybe even great grandmother’s?) and women who are mother figures in other’s lives. Many roles of a mother go unnoticed and are under appreciated. So today I want to encourage and acknowledge you with Mother’s Day Bible verses. You may even find a few to share in a Mother’s Day Card! What Does the Bible Say about Mothers?  The Word of God holds mothers in high esteem, asking us to honor and love them. His first commandment to Adam and Eve was to “be fruitful and multiply”– to bond them together as husband and wife and cre ..read more

Finding Peace in the Storm

While I was reading in the book of Matthew, I noticed a chapter title that caught my eye: Jesus Calms the Storm.  Oh yes, I thought, I need to read that! I remembered snippets of Bible verses about “perfect peace” and the “peace that passes all understanding.” I’m feeling we could all use a little (or a lot) more peace in the storms of life. Jesus Calms the Storm This story is told in Mark 4:35-41, Matthew 8:23-27, and Luke 8: 22-25. An exhausted Jesus is sleeping in a fishing boat crossing the Sea of Galilee at night. A fierce storm comes up and nearly swamps the boat. &nb ..read more

Lessons We Learn from 3 Faithful Mothers of the Bible

In honor of Mother’s Day, I’d like to look at three faithful and amazing mothers of the Bible. I hope you could celebrate (or reflect on) the love of your mother or a special woman who played the role of a mother in your life. The role of a mother is to live out the sincere faith, grace, wisdom, and grit needed to care for their children. I threw grit in there because by definition it embodies what you need to fulfill the role of a godly mother- courage, strength, perseverance, and passion for long-term goals. That holds true of mothers now and in Biblical times. Do you see these qualities in ..read more

Lessons from the Raising of Lazarus-John 11:1-44

The story of the raising of Lazarus of Bethany is one of three individuals that Jesus resurrected from the dead. (The other two were Jairus’s daughter and a widow’s son.) We know the disciples saw Jesus perform many unrecorded miracles, so there may have been many more. As we move towards Easter and Jesus’ own resurrection, I want to study the raising of Lazarus. There are great lessons in this story! Lazarus was the brother of Mary and Martha, and they were among Jesus’ closest friends. Lazarus’ name in Hebrew means “God has helped.” I find no coincidences in the Bible, so the fact that his ..read more

What Is the Main Message of the Book of Jonah?

The Old Testament has some strange and interesting stories: a talking donkey and snake, men living 900 years, a man swallowed by a fish, and more. Today we’re going to concentrate on the incredible story of Jonah and the great fish to answer this question- what is the main message of the book of Jonah? Who Was Jonah? Jonah is most likely the best known of the 12 minor prophets due to his amazing story. (Minor prophets aren’t less important; their books are merely shorter in length.) He was a real man with traceable roots. His genealogy is stated in the first verse: “The word of the Lord came t ..read more

The Lord is my Refuge and My Strength

The Bible is filled with verses about God’s promises of refuge and safety. They can touch your heart and cover you with comfort and peace. You will be able to say with a newfound confidence, “the Lord is my refuge!”  Refuge Meaning in the Bible We rarely use the word “refuge” today. We might hear a safe place, asylum, or sanctuary. But the meaning is the same. Refuge is a hiding place or sheltered from danger, trouble, or pursuit. Taking refuge in the Lord is a topic mentioned over and over in God’s Word. They mention refuge in a physical form (storms or enemies) or as a spiritual need in ..read more

Matthew, Mark, and John were all eyewitnesses to the spectacular miracle of Jesus and Peter walking on water. Jesus had just performed the miracle of the feeding of the 5000 with the 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. He was seeking a time of solitude and prayer with His Father. He sent the disciples ahead in a boat to cross the Sea of Galilee. The ensuing storm brought opportunities to teach Jesus’  disciples valuable lessons in faith. The storms in our Christian life bring these same truths to light. Each Gospel has their own important details to add to this story of Peter walking on water ..read more

Bible Verses about Surrender-Living Without Fear

Surprisingly, while researching Bible verses about surrender, I found the word “surrender(s)” only occurs 18 times in the entire NIV Bible, and none in the KJV! We only find one verse in the New Testament -when Pilate surrenders Jesus to be crucified. I know there is a Biblical concept of surrendering our lives to Jesus. But where is it in the Bible?  The topic of “surrender” recently showed up everywhere- in my social feeds, TV shows, songs on the radio, the books I was reading, etc. When God gets my attention, I listen. I knew this wasn’t a coincidence. I had recently decide ..read more

What Does it Mean to Take Up Your Cross?
Busy Blessed Women

Is anything more universal than the cross? We see it world-wide: on churches and walls, as jewelry and tattoos, and on foreheads on Ash Wednesday. For Christians, it symbolizes salvation. Jesus knew the cross was in His future. He also told His disciples that to be His follower, they needed to “take up their cross.” What did Jesus mean when he said to “take up your cross?” What Does the Cross Represent?  The cross represents fulfilled prophecy. God revealed His plan to defeat Satan and give us salvation through Jesus in Genesis! (Genesis 3:15) The cross in Jesus’ day symbolized the shamef ..read more
