At home in Girdwood, Alaska—as the Chugach Mountains become white with snow in the alpine and fall colors are in the valley—I reminisce about a trip I did several years ago, in late September. A dream ski come true. Skiing from the summit of Mt. Aspiring in New Zealand.
I hope these photos give you some inspiration and stoke for more adventures.

I got sent this new nifty coffee device to try out. The FinalPress. It makes a good cup of hot coffee, cold brew or loose leaf tea. It’s well made, small and easy to use. No filters, no plastic!
I’d say it’s similar to a french press as far as the taste goes, but it’s way smaller and no glass or plastic to break. Also for when in the backcountry it’s a lot easier to clean than a french press. Try it out!
Unless I’m going light and easy by using instant coffee packets, one of these devices per 2 people could end up being my choice over the AeroPress. In my opinion, each way that you can make co ..read more

New article I wrote for Voile Backcountry Manufacturing.
“Like having a plan to vote, you should have a plan for your avalanche education.”

It’s late August and it’s feeling and looking like fall here in Alaska. We’ve received the first white dusting on the high peaks above Girdwood, the vegetation is changing and that cool, crisp smell is in the air. It’s all about living in the moment, but I’ve got the stoke for winter now and I’d like to reflect on my summer. Until skiing is truly here I’ll be cranking out work in the office for the business and sneaking out for more bikes, hikes, hunts and packraft adventures.
In mid-March, after I dealt with Covid cancelling trips and shutting down my business, I had a few days of freak-out m ..read more

I put together a trip report for the Voile V-Team Blog on my last Sea and Ski trip into Prince William Sound, Alaska. Since all my work this spring was canceled I had ample time to reflect on an amazing week with an amazing group of people. The trip was a TOAL (Trip Of A Lifetime) !

Big thanks to Alex and Maddy with Babkin Charters for being key in making these trips happen with me. Together we are all making dreams into a reality. Check out my Sea and Ski trip page for more photos and information.

Last spring ski season was one I’ll never forget. I spent two weeks making a dream a reality for myself personally and for my guiding business. Exploring Prince William Sound (PWS) with skis aboard the Babkin vessel. I’m pleased to move the test phase into the present moment and offer permitted skiing trips in PWS, Alaska.

Let’s talk about margins. Yes, margins––as members of the outdoor community, we’re especially familiar with them––like the quality or stability of snow we slide down on different aspects and elevations in the mountains. They’re the seemingly small moments that carry enough weight to tip the scale from failure to success.
As it happens, environmental and political history are also made at the margins. Now more than ever, this outdoor community led by YOU can deliver those small victories where they’re needed most. It doesn’t take a whole nation to create change, just a few thousand of the ..read more

This spring I had two trips into Denali National Park and Preserve which holds the mighty peaks and glaciers known as the Alaska Range. These were instructional courses where students had an interest in expanding their mountain skills to allow them to do their own future trips on glaciated terrain.
First trip was with two local Alaska ladies. I love getting out into the mountains with fellow Alaskans. There is an incredible playground right out the door of our homes. We flew in at the end of April into an area I’ve never been to before. With 33 trips for me into the Alaska Range it was really ..read more

I spoke with Voormi recently to help them out with an avalanche awareness blog. Learning and teaching about avalanches is a passion of mine. I’m obsessed with it and I’ve got a lot more to learn myself.
Check it out here and then check out their website of high quality clothing. They make the best, most durable and longest lasting wool clothing you will ever own. It’s all locally sourced rocky mountain wool and completely made in the USA. Award winning and industry advancing ways of using wool for clothing.
