It’s pretty obvious that Dawson is enjoying L.O.G.I.C. training at the Food Bank of Delaware’s new Milford facility. He always greets everyone with a smile and a friendly wave – everyday! Kyrie, a Rehoboth Beach resident, says she always had an interest in cooking, but never thought about a career in the food service industry until her mother saw a social media post about the Food Bank of Delaware’s Culinary School. Kyrie says she did a bit of research on our web site then thought “Let me go ahead and apply.” That decision transformed her life from a stay-at-home mom to an award-winning cook, and now she is about a month away from graduating. Sussex County is making a sizeable deposit when it comes to battling hunger in southern Delaware. County officials on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, announced a $750,000 award to the Food Bank of Delaware that will go toward food purchases for Sussex County families in need. Funding comes by way of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021. The deadline to register to participate in the Food Bank of Delaware’s food structure building competition, CANgineering, is Friday, April 26. CANgineering supports the year-round hunger relief efforts of the Food Bank of Delaware. Last year, 21 teams competed and collected more than 33,000 pounds of food. For Dave and his young family, the Food Bank of Delaware’s Healthy Pantry Center in Milford, is a lifesaver in what might be described as an unfortunate perfect storm. The Center inside the new facility is arranged like a small grocery store, and neighbors, with the help of a volunteer, are able to select food and available household supplies that suit their needs and their tastes.
