The church’s has a role in promoting each member’s emotional wellness.
There has never been a need for pastoral counseling like this time. People are hurting, people are going through issues related to the COVID-19 and even other life’s pressures and stresses. The gospel of Jesus Christ calls for the church to heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds. It’s part of Biblical ministry and Jesus Himself did it at several instances in the scripture. The question is how do we do that, what do you do as a pastor or a spiritual leader when people come to you? How do you handle their cases and n ..read more

This season of the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to live in extreme conditions which will make its way to our books of history. This health situation has stretched our physical and mental health to a very unpredictable elastic limit. Unfortunately, the curve of mental illness is sharply rising and Peoples’ ways of reacting to circumstances and uncertainties are the main breeding ground of these statistics.
Have you considered what’s all about the concern around mental health with the COVID-19?
In my last blog on understanding mental health, I mentioned that mental health is just like physica ..read more

“I can’t get to sleep” “I need my mind to be quiet…”
Falling asleep can be difficult sometimes if you are going through a hard time. Research shows that inadequate sleep negatively impacts our psychological and physical well-being (Markwald & Germain, 2020). Temporary sleep also reduces our memory performance and prolonged lack of sleep can impact our mental health and poses a serious risk of illness such as cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and diabetes (Peuntes-Mestril & Anton, 2017).
HOW CAN I SLEEP BETTER?
Sleep is key for optimal functioning of the brain and body.

We are facing a worldwide crisis and many of us are in places which are already affected by the corona Virus. Panic is gripping through peoples’ throats and many are bracing up for the uncertainties ahead. How can we manage our thoughts from being affected by the catastrophe?
There are many things we can do to overcome these fears and anxieties.
Stay informed but don’t over follow the negative energy presented by the media. Preferably get updates from trust worth sources like the CDC, WHO, and the Ministry of Health. Step away from the media if you feel worried and just ask someone reli ..read more

I had raised a question of whether it’s possible to have complete peace of mind. In my view, I think it is not possible because we are emotional beings and we react differently to situations. We may not be happy always, there are good moments and bad moments. However, it is possible to have peace of mind (I have removed the word complete) even when facing ordeals and difficulties. This this is a state of self-awareness where you are fully aware of the worries you have, instead, you chose to focus other things which will calm your mind and cultivate a feeling of inner peace.

THE SOCIAL REALITY ASPECT.
I want to start off with a quote “we cannot be distinguished from our situations for they form us and decide our possibilities” Jean Paul Sarte (1946). Think just for a while what this could mean. The situations surrounding you (for instance, your spouse, children, pets, occupation, people you come in contact with, your community and several other things around you) determine how you live.
Our minds have two ways of constructing social reality, we can either have objective or subjective constructions depending on how we see things. That is to say, how we see things ma ..read more

In life, sometimes we think we know exactly where we are going, the truth is, no one really knows what tomorrow holds, today we are alive, the next day we may not. We may shield ourselves from all kinds of risks but we can never insure life, once lost, it’s gone. Therefore that’s where your spirituality comes in. Consider for a moment, why is life so fragile?
We live a distinctive life from everything else that exists in this world because we possess an aspect of existence which defines our being. This aspect of life is identified as the ‘inner man’ or rather the ‘soul’. Your soul is the true ..read more

What is Mental Health?
Let first consider what health is, WHO constitution states that “health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. So, we understand that health is not only about the physical aspects of the body, but it’s also about mental and social aspects of life.
Great, so what is mental health? I know you may be very unfamiliar with this term or you have just heard people talking about it or you may be wondering, what this dragon is all about. Don’t worry, I’ll be teaching you in my free courses with a la ..read more
