January reading recap
Paige Briscoe

As usual, I’ve started 2024 with my yearly Goodreads reading goal of 100 books! Maybe this year I’ll be successful. It’s unlikely that I’ll be successful (I have never once been successful since I started setting this same goal in 2014). I didn’t read a lot in January, but I did read two books that had been on my bookshelf for literal years. I moved home a year ago, in with my partner, and we do not have the space for books – I have just one singular three-story trolley, which is overflowing, and I have made the agreement that I will read all of them within the year so that I can donate them ..read more

Pokémon GO: Hoenn Tour Recap
Paige Briscoe
by Paige Briscoe

As you know, last weekend was the Hoenn Tour in Pokémon GO. I’ll be recapping how the weekend went for me down below! Was anyone else… disappointed with this event? I fully felt like last year’s tour had a lot more going for it, both in terms of actual activities and Pokémon available. It’s a shame, because I was super excited – Hoenn was the first generation I played, having started my Pokémon journey with the GameBoy game Ruby. Naturally, I echoed that choice and selected Ruby for the weekend. It was disappointing to me that day two was a carbon copy of day one. Some additional challenges (e ..read more

Get to know heartwarming women’s fiction author Lilac Mills
Paige Briscoe
by Paige Briscoe

Hi everyone! As mentioned in my January reading recap, I reached out to the lovely Lilac Mills to see if she was interested in having a nice little Q&A with me. Lilac lives on a Welsh mountain with her very patient husband and incredibly sweet dog, where she grows veggies (if the slugs don’t get them), bakes (badly) and loves making things out of glitter and glue (a mess, usually).   She is the author of over 12 romance novels, which have been translated across the world. What do you enjoy most about women’s fiction? Aside from the romance, I like that most of them are character d ..read more

Questions I’m desperate for answers from in a Wednesday season 2
Paige Briscoe

Naturally, this blog post is going to contain spoilers for Netflix’s Wednesday, so if you haven’t watched the series yet, proceed with caution. 1. Who is the boy who passed up Principal Weems for Morticia Frump? We have two possible options here. One – Gomez. Two – Gareth. It doesn’t matter which option, really, as both could have caused the obvious tension between her and Morticia. And both would have caused her to be the first to discover Gareth – she was looking for one of them. I struggle to think that it was Gomez, as the interactions between the Addams and Weems focussed on her and Morti ..read more

Pride month movie review: Uncle Frank
Paige Briscoe
by Paige Briscoe

I was going to start this blog post with how watching a relatively unknown LGBTQ+ film during Pride month seems to be my annual tradition… however, it turns out I missed out last year! Nether the less, I started in June 2020 with a review of ‘Handsome Devil‘, and now I am reviewing the Amazon Original ‘Uncle Frank’. All in all, this was a lovely film. And whilst the main topics of grief and homophobia are often sad, dark, or even angst and anxiety inducing, I found this film quite the opposite. Eponymous, the film is about Elizabeth “Beth” Bledsoe’s Uncle Frank, and his fraught relationship wi ..read more

Adventure week in Pokémon GO is officially over! I’d like to do a nice little recap; I really want to start writing more on the games I enjoy playing and so I thought this is a great time to start. So here’s a recap of my adventures on Sunday, June 12th! I started the day getting my buddy, Sapphire, all excited with a poffin. Sapphire is my 100% shiny and lucky Umbreon that I am currently working to becoming my (first) best buddy. Only 61 more hearts to go! Early on in my walk, I hatched 4 eggs – giving me this field research reward. A perfect Archen. I don’t have enough candy to evolve, so ..read more

How I would survive if I was on Channel 4’s ‘Hunted’
Paige Briscoe
by Paige Briscoe

We’ve all dreamt of getting away with a crime as children. Some adults still do – but most won’t act on those thoughts. You’d hope. My recurrent dream is quite simple: how I would evade capture if I was on the show Hunted. Of course, this is the fantasy and surrealist side of my brain talking; if I were to actually be on the show, or ever in a position where I was on the run, I would probably be found within a day or two, so. But I have a plan, anyway. Now this first stage would have to occur over a period of time before going on the run; emptying my bank account. As much as I could, so I coul ..read more
