At Home with the Ovechkins: Isolating Just Like Us

The Coronavirus is keeping everyone home, including our favorite Washington Capitals player, Alex Ovechkin and his family. They may have a bigger house than most of us; however, they still have to stock up on groceries, deal with empty shelves, and find a way to exercise and keep healthy. Nastya Ovechkina, who is pregnant with their second child, does a great job of posting about Ovi and infant Sergei on Instagram so we don’t miss a thing! The family hit up the local Harris Teeter to fill their cupboards and just like us, Nastya was surprised by the empty shelves. It looks like in the end they ..read more

March 12, 2020: the day hockey came to an abrupt end with the announcement from the commissioner that he would take a pause as the United States and Canada began to see the spread of the Coronavirus. It was maybe when many of us realized that this was serious and possibly life changing. It was only two weeks ago and yet it seems like forever. We have seen hockey go on hiatus before with the lockouts. That was about grown men who couldn’t come to agreement (where have we seen that lately). There was uncertainty then too: when would they start, how long would it take, would the game look differe ..read more

Thursday afternoon the NHL hit pause on the season. The Capitals, in line with the league, cancelled morning skate at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, a foreshadowing for what was to come. Here is what they had to say, including working on plans for season ticket holders. Today, the National Hockey League (NHL) issued a directive that all games are suspended until further notice. Accordingly, the Washington Capitals will not be playing games until the NHL determines next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic. The Capitals will continue to closely monitor the health of players ..read more

The Caps surprised just about everyone with an incredible third period in which they tied the game. On a Sunday afternoon Lars Eller (with an assist by goaltender Braden Holtby) sealed the game with a 5-4 OT win!! Our takeaways: Evander Kane seemed unstoppable with a hat trick but that didn’t actually stop the Caps!! The Caps never gave up. Nic Dowd scored first for Caps and Jakub Vrana got on the board with a goal in the second and third period. TJ Oshie kept the Caps to move into OT. Some head shaking about Evgeny Kuznetsov’s play, or lack of. Alex Ovechkin has been team captain for 10 ..read more

Dear Friends, Happy 2020! Our Prediction for the year ahead?? A GR8 year of big wins lies ahead the Washington Capitals!! Unfortunately for us, we are taking a blog break. Our team has done some fantastic tweeting and posting photos on IG. However, life (meaning school and work) has made it nearly impossible for us to write. We have also felt the pressure from another blog that has greater resources to cover every tidbit of Caps news. We don’t want to just repackage what NBC Sports and other first line media outlets report. Nor do we want just to repost what Caps’ players post. We don’t think ..read more
