The Calgary Flames are no doubt heading into a very busy offseason after a disappointing year relative to their renewed expectations after last year’s disaster. The team failed to make the playoffs for the second year in a row, and while the team enters a retooling or rebuilding phase (whatever you want to call it), everybody will be on the table when it comes to a potential trade or contract extension if they are eligible for it.
One player who made waves this season for all the right reasons, Yegor Sharangovich, will be able to sign a new contract extension with the Flames as of July 1. Wit ..read more

With the Calgary Flames’ regular season concluding last week, it’s time to look toward what should be a busy offseason for a team in the middle of a rebuild. Craig Conroy is sure to have plenty of items on his to-do list, but perhaps the biggest one will be what to do with starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom.
After a near trade to New Jersey in February, Markstrom finished the season as a Flame and struggled down the stretch. During Calgary’s locker cleanout day, both Markstrom and Conroy didn’t exactly pour cold water on the trade rumours.
When asked, goaltender Jacob Markstrom says “I don ..read more

Closing out the second-best statistical season of his career, Nazem Kadri‘s 2024 offseason isn’t exactly going to be a quiet one. Just days after the Flames’ last regular season game, the superstar forward announced that he’s going to be releasing a book about his career, set to be released on October 15, 2024.
It’s been fun to reflect on things this far.
A lot of details you’re not gonna wanna miss, full disclosure Absolute blast being able to put my career in perspective with the help of some great people.

The Calgary Wranglers wrapped up their regular season in the AHL with an uninspiring five-game losing streak, capped off with a 3–2 loss to the Abbotsford Canucks. In fact, four of those five losses were to the Canucks, and the Wranglers scored just seven goals over those four losses.
Reinforcements have arrived in Calgary! With their respective seasons now over, Parker Bell, Samuel Honzek, Jaden Lipinski, Etienne Morin, and Hunter Brzustewicz have all joined the Wranglers.
Additionally, one of the Calgary Flames’ prospects outside of the Wranglers is (back) in action.

Yesterday I looked over the expectations I had set for the Calgary Flames at the forward position for 2023–24. A disappointing season filled with more surprises than not but put into perspective the level that the team truly is. The defence and goalies follow a very similar pattern to the forwards.
Defencemen MacKenzie Weegar
Expectations: 35–45 points, rebuild offence, continue great defensive play
MacKenzie Weegar finishes his second season with the Flames being their best defenceman again. Being a big Weegar fan, I figured him getting away from a shutdown role would let him produce more an ..read more

Welcome, members of the Tortured Flames Fans Department. As you may know, Taylor Swift has finally released her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. Luckily for all of you, the higher-ups at The Win Column have given me the green light to write a Taylor Swift-inspired post. So Don’t Blame Me if this isn’t the content that you are looking for, but let me try and change your mind.
It’s been a rough couple of years for the C of Red, and it doesn’t look like it will end any time soon. As the organization enters a rebuild, it will probably be a Cruel Summer for Flames fans, as they have to wa ..read more

The Kitchener Rangers were swept by the London Knights in the second round of the OHL playoffs. With the sweep, Calgary Flames prospect Hunter Brzustewicz’s OHL season came to a close. For the budding defensive superstar, when one door closes, another opens.
His time as a Vancouver Canucks prospect lasted less than a full year as he was traded to Calgary. His time in the OHL might just be coming to a close too, as he’s now joining the Calgary Wranglers on an amateur tryout for the AHL playoffs.
The Wranglers have added defenceman Hunter Brzustewicz to the roster on an ATO.

The Calgary Flames had yet another disappointing season. They missed the playoffs again but instead of being the best to miss like last year, they were the ninth worst team in the NHL. Expectations weren’t necessarily high for the Flames but most were expecting them to bounce back in some way. Looking back, I had set a few forwards to resurge while most were to continue down their career path. The Flames lost players who were and added players who weren’t a part of these expectations.
Let’s take a closer look at how each forward fared.
