Guess who’s back, back again? Cam Newton’s back, tell a friend! As you might have heard, the former MVP met with the Panthers today to talk about a return to Charlotte to fill the QB position, and the two sides agreed to terms to bring Newton back to Charlotte, pending a physical. The one-year deal is worth up to $10 million for the rest of year, including $4.5 million fully guaranteed and a $1.5 million roster bonus, per Ian Rapoport. The Panthers have been searching for a quarterback since the start of free agency in the NFL, and Monday it looks as if they landed that player. Jets former first-round pick Sam Darnold is now a Panther, as on Monday the Cats traded a sixth-rounder this year, a second-rounder in 2022, and another fourth-round selection in next year’s draft for the QB, who in three seasons as the Jets starter went just 13-25. Just two days ago running back Christian McCaffery said that he “felt great.” Now it looks as if the 24-year-old Panthers franchise back may not even make an appearance in Sunday’s affair against the Denver Broncos. The Panthers announced on Monday afternoon that they’ve placed eight players on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Placed on the list by Carolina includes wide receivers DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel, defensive tackles Derrick Brown and Zach Kerr, linebacker Shaq Thompson, tackle Greg Little, and punter Michael Palardy. The eighth player is wide receiver Ishmael Hyman, who is on the practice squad. The Panthers didn’t disclose if any players had tested positive for COVID-19 or if they were determined to be high-risk contacts of someone who had tested positive.
