Just on the outskirts of downtown Tulsa only a few blocks from the hustle and bustle of the Deco district lies East Village. The area earned the nickname “The Bend” in the early 20th century as the roads curve to meet the southwest-northeast orientation of downtown. The name stuck, with wine and coffee shop Hodges Bend borrowing the moniker now for nearly a decade.  Looking to bring something new to Tulsa, the owners of Hodges Bend, John Gaberino and Noah Bush partnered with T.C. LeRoy to open a restaurant in the neighborhood they had grown to love. They acquired the former Girouard ..read more

The humble street taco has taken on a variety of forms across Tulsa. Using the timeless and simple formula of tortilla + protein + veggies + cheese, chefs are creating imaginative taco concoctions with flair. Jerk chicken with Caribbean spices replaces grilled meats flavored with cumin. Sometimes meat is replaced all-together to create a vegan-friendly taco. Move over salsa, because a tangy, spicy bulgogi sauce is a delectably dangerous doppelganger. This list is a mix of both traditional tacos from some of Tulsa’s favorite taqueria’s and a few of our favorite non-traditional twists and f ..read more

If we know one thing, it’s that Tulsans love their pizza and we know the feeling. Pizza has a long and colorful history. In Sardinia, French and Italian archaeologists have found bread baked over 7,000 years ago and thousands of years later in the late 19th century, the tasty treat made its way to the United States thanks to large Italian populations in New York City, Philadelphia and Chicago. Since then, Pizza has been a beloved food with seemingly endless styles, ingredients and flavors spanning across the world. Luckily, you won’t have to travel too far to get a great slice in Tulsa. It’s the kind of restaurant that everyone is talking about. “They make fettuccine Alfredo right at your table! In a huge hollowed-out wheel of cheese!” “You can watch them making your mozzarella! Any fresher and it would have to come straight from the cow!” “They have a shrimp as long as your forearm!” And if you’re lucky enough to score a reservation, and you walk in past the long gleaming counter backed by towering wood prosecco bar, under the chandeliers dripping with cut glass crystals, past ranks of waiters wearing starched shirts, starched aprons and (probably) starched ties, to your tab ..read more
