Hey, if you were a HOT DOG, and you were starving, would you eat yourself? ⁣ ⁣ This classic Weekend Update skit of Will Ferrell as Harry Caray sent me on a mission. A mission to find myself a delicious hot dog that I would eat if it were me and starving. I’ve had my share of delicious hot dogs having grown up in Jersey City and the nearby NYC metro area. My favorite hot dog from back home is Boulevard Drinks’, sabrett hot dog with their signature chili onions! See below. A Mission…for the culture. I haven’t discovered a hot dog that comes remotely close to satisfying my taste for one sin ..read more

Hello there! It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted and I don’t like that I’ve left this space dormant and that I have essentially taken the summer off BUT this past weekend has inspired me to come back with my latest entry of Lunch with Walt. So, anyone that knows me knows that I’m a huge #BreakingBad fan so naturally, when the long-rumored movie sequel was announced over the weekend, I was beyond excited because we have a trailer, some details about the plot, and a premiere date. I’m also a #FunkoPop enthusiast who happens to love food so combine all these factors together and you’ve g ..read more

Thank you to @sushigirl_atx and a @conolio Arboretum for the experience of joining a tasting class and have a GNO with @aaah_mariel_and_max tonight. Will not see an olive, olive oil, or #extravirginolive oil the same. Thank you also to our instructor, Laura, and Michael and Isaac. Super informative and passionate. Our class from the historical background, the process, the tastes, the food, and how to pair which kind with which food. Toasted it up with a glass of Selbach riesling. It is amazing how such one ingredient can be so versatile for savory and sweet delights! Would love to go there as ..read more

Here for the BBQ…..and Chicken? What started as a quest to try Interstellar BBQ on 620 turned into the discovery of a brand new addition to North Austin’s food scene – Charm BBQ Chicken. which is right next door to Interstellar. Walt got to enjoy lunch there and we’ll report back later with his experience. So, I’m no stranger to Korean BBQ OR Korean Fried Chicken so to discover this Korean Fried Chicken Pub was an answer to a wish I’ve had since I moved here. They were in the middle of their soft opening when I paid them a visit last week but their Grand Opening is today and they’ll be offerin ..read more

Lunch with Walt: Tito Adobo

Almost a year from the day that I first enjoyed food from Tito Adobo, I found myself at a new location in a spacious food park on East Cesar Chavez with more room to sit than the previous location and some new menu offerings. I’ve visited quite a few times since my first visit, however, and each time, we’ve brought visitors from out of town and folks like us who recently moved that enjoy filipino food, in particular. Not only is the food delicious but Elvin, Tito Adobo himself, is a delight to interact with and he makes sure you come away satisfied with the food and the service.  I brough ..read more

Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ-Revisited

In October of 2016, we made our 2nd trip to Austin and the hands-down highlight of that trip was Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ where we were introduced to the “Real Deal Holyfield.” If you haven’t heard of the Real Deal Holyfield-allow me to provide you with a visual: A Fried Egg, Potatoes, Bacon, Refried Beans, and a delicious slab of brisket with tomato serrano salsa to top it off!!! If Salt Lick BBQ changed the game for me as far as how I perceived BBQ during our initial trip to Austin in May of 2014, Valentina’s and its’ Real Deal Holyfield did the same for me with how I perceived tacos an ..read more

Lunch with Walt: Lou’s Bodega

Not your Father’s Bodega At least it wasn’t for me. The picture below is of a bodega located down the block from the house I grew up in Jersey City. It is one of many that can be found in my city and in and around my neighborhood which consisted of mostly low to middle class income families. Garcia Deli & Grocery; West Side Avenue, Jersey City, NJ So, when I learned about Lou’s Bodega opening in East Austin, I already knew that it would be unlike any Bodega that I’m familiar with and I didn’t care. As I’ve alluded to many times before, I’m in the area often, it’s my favorite ‘hood in Austi ..read more

Donut Ice Cream Sandwich Kinda Night at the Baked Bear

Our first trip to the Seaholm Power Plant District brought on some more firsts. I enjoyed my first Donut Ice Cream Sandwich while the rest of my crew enjoyed COOKIE sandwiches at The Baked Bear. We had one with M&M’s & Bear Batter and the other with Vanilla & Fruity Pebbles. My glazed donut sandwich had espresso bean ice cream to cap off a delicious Friday night. As for the cookie sandwiches…. The Baked Bear is great place to take the kids after letting them run around outside at Seaholm’s spacious lawn/green space. Having said that, we’ll need to return during the day ti ..read more

Banh Mi Kinda Night at Saigon Le Vendeur

I’ve been here for nearly two years and I’ve been wanting to find a place where I can enjoy a classic Banh Mi sandwich. Unbeknownst to me, there was a converted shipping container not too far from where I get off the metrorail during my trips to East Austin at Plaza Satillo that serves up some of Austin’s best Vietnamese Street Food-including Banh Mis! It’s actually located right next to the rails but I don’t notice it because I always sit on the side opposite of it. This sandwich oasis, of course, is Saigon Le Vendeur!  I didn’t waste any time. I knew what I wanted and I got what I want ..read more

There’s no shortage of coffee shops in Austin, TX. In fact, there’s a long list of shops that I’ve yet to visit and I’ve been here for nearly two years. As such, it almost seems the options are endless and in a way, they are. My favorite, so far, is Cenote . Not only is it a fantastic coffee shop in and of itself but it has an ample amount of patio space all around which is aesthetic as it is inviting. I work remotely and I can always count on Cenote to provide me with the perfect combination of a space to work, delicious food, and amazing coffee to boot. I ordered a Chorizo Breakfast Sand ..read more
