The 'yo' just means hi and the 'bob' is just a generic random name which mostly means to me, anonymous. When you play a video game, there's almost always an option to input your character's name. Every time I play a game with lots of people, the names are usually taken. So I created Yobob, having the idea of joining a server full of people with the intention of being a..

No one Talks about the Stamina Bar in Farming Games
What the Stamina Bar Does
The Stamina bar is often a secondary thing in gamers minds. It’s like, Oh, so my energy goes down if I use this. And they continue on with the game. So if you’re mining, you just have that stamina bar in the back of your mind as you carefully whack away the stones and your stamina drops down little by little.
And that’s how far most stamina bar in farming games goes. Actually, you can say that to a lot of games now, but let’s just stick with the farming genre since my game is in that genre.
Anyways, in the far ..read more

My Game is made in RPG Maker MV
RPG Maker & It's bad History
RPG Maker has a very bad history of making bad games. And it’s mostly because it’s such a low entry into game development. There’s no programming involved and all the art needed is given to you to make games quickly. That’s why I regret making my game in RPG Maker MV.
When was the last time a good game was released in RPG Maker? It was when Omori was released. Omori is appraised for it’s psychological horror and it was made in RPG Maker MV just like my game! Another game before Omori? To The Moon series. And that was relea ..read more

Why Harvest Island is Different from other Farming Sim Genre
Harvest Island is a Story Driven Game
There aren’t a lot of story driven games in the farming genre. In fact, there’s one game that comes close to it and it’s rune factory, but that’s a flip of a coin because the main goal of rune factory is to farm and get marry just like the other farming simulator. This goes for harvest moon and especially for stardew valley.
What I mean by a story driven farming simulator is that you have a centralized plot: beginning, middle, and end. The games ends after xxx amount of hours you play into ..read more

Stardew Valley Vs Harvest Island
The differences between Stardew Valley and Harvest Island
A Story Driven Farming Simulator
I get asked a lot about what makes my game so different compared to stardew valley. It’s gotten so bad that people hate my game because they think it’s a stardew valley copycat. But it actually isn’t a copycat. In fact, the game’s premise and gameplay is very different to stardew valley. In stardew, a farm is given to you and you work on your farm to raise a family. In Harvest Island, you are born into a farm and animals are there for you. The main distinction that ..read more

Harvest Island Development Journey
A Super Ultra Quick Day/Night Time Lapse of Harvest Island
It took me a year and a half to make Harvest Island
Harvest Island went through a lot of iterations, community feedback, and art changes and the game isn’t even completed yet!
It took me 1.5 years to develop the current version that I have now and my journey as a game developer feels like it’s just started haha.
The top Gif is my current version of the game. The two on the right were my designs a year ago. Notice how the screen is smaller? Well, there’s a lot of things that changed. Back then ..read more

Harvest Island Wide Screen!
Harvest Island Resolution 1920x1080
Since February, I have been working on Harvest Island for a while. One of the biggest changes was implemented was widescreen. From my previous game version, the resolution was at 1280×720, shown at the bottom of the image. And with the new resolution, 1920×1080, the game became more alive. It felt like there was more to see than just a narrow tunnel vision.
Switching from a wide screen resolution meant that I had to draw the empty parts of the game to complete the world more. That took some time, but it w ..read more

Harvest Island New Trailer!
Harvest Island Trailer Breakdown
I finally got to make a new trailer for the game. There’s a lot of changes that I had to make within the game before I could make a polished trailer and if you guys are keeping up with the game development, you can noticed the significant graphic improvements as well as the subtle details added. I’ll link the trailer for you guys to compare! Harvest Island Trailer
So this game trailer isn’t a gameplay trailer but a story based trailer. I wanted to show the relationship between the two siblings. Will is ..read more

Harvest Island Indie Game Marketing Struggle
The First Tree
Indie Game Analysis
A few months back, I was looking at successful games to help me attract a large fanbase: graveyard keeper, stardew valley, and animal crossing. These were also my inspiration to help shape harvest island into a great game. It was an extensive study. Bought the games and broke down how these games were fun. I even applied some of the concepts into my own game!
But the studies I have did were, “how to create a great game” and not, “how to market your game.”
There are two games that caught my attention as a ..read more

God Statues
Harvest Offering
In Harvest Island, Will and Samantha needs to give their harvest offering to the gods. Harvest offering is basically what you collect from the island. It could be dairy products: goat milk, cow milk, or even eggs. Or it could be things on the beach like seashells, sand dollars, starfish, seaweed, and even crabs! There are a lot of items that you can collect in Harvest Island and once you offer them to the gods, you’ll receive bless which is used to befriend animals.
Will is giving his harvest offering to the gods
But giving your items to the gods ..read more

Marketing for an indie game is challenging. A lot of indie game developers publish their games on Steam or Itch and expect a huge number of views/downloads on a single day. But that won’t happen. And it never will. You have to put effort into marketing. But the secret is where?
I got in touch with Ehmprah, an indie developer who created a Tower Defense game called, “Core Defense”
He has just recently published Core Defense on Steam, July 30th 2020 and as of writing this now, it’s August 3rd 2020. Half a week has gone by and we will learn his success story of marketing an Indie Gam ..read more
