Leica Q2 – neighbours envy, owners pride

“The Leica Q2 is at least double the camera it was. No joke.” Kristian Dowling I got myself the Leica Q2 this week. Happy little mudlark! The previous model — Leica Q, has been a game changer for me. I got it back in September 2017. Changing from my Fujifilm X-Pro2 to the Leica Q as my everyday camera took a while. With the passing of time I realised I was sitting with the worlds most brilliant compact camera ever. Not pocketable size but for a compact camera with brilliant AF and low light capabilities the Q was a portable powerhouse. This week however, I got myself the Leica Q2. Can the acc ..read more

Leica Fotografie International I received the below email from Leica on Saturday evening. Very humbled indeed that my photo was selected in LFI — Leica Fotografie International gallery. Thank you Leica I feel very honoured. It gives me more reason to go harder with my Leica Q2. This is a photo of Bernard I had shot back in 2018 with my Leica Q. As some of you know I have a thing for black and white photography. Its timeless and magical. Something colour photography often struggles with. The pandemic has seen nothing but reduced access to getting out and about and often dilutes creativity. But ..read more

“Real time nostalgia. The magic of photography, simultaneously freezing time and making you aware of it, methodically placing the present in the past.” — Stephen Yang Welcome to the family Fujifilm X100V. Stephen Yang wrote a beautiful article on Petapixel a few weeks: “The Fuji X100V: Falling In love all over again” — I hear ya. I can’t put it any better than he has. The beauty of this machine is beyond words and if you love filmic tones and the colour science it will tug your heart strings at every click. Thank you Ana Rosenberg for your encouragement. Do check her amazing work here. I’ve be ..read more

初心 – a beginners mind

BEGINNERS MIND — SHŌ SHIN “Shō Shin. (初心) is a concept in Zen Buddhism meaning “beginner’s mind. It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner in that subject would.” — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoshin Why is SHŌ SHIN or Beginner’s mind so important? Creatively speaking, when ego enters the mind of an artist, muse can no longer abide. For artists that create, the pureness of this state of being true to their art is next to none. To stay worthy and inspired in a world f ..read more

Antique cognac leather camera strap

Lets be honest, I didn’t really need another camera strap. I have a beautiful moose leather strap and the Henri neck strap – the one Eric and Cindy gave me back in 2017 when we were all in Vietnam. But of course two is never enough. So there I was looking again at ONA camera straps. I really liked the new one Ana had purchased recently, we both have the same camera and before I knew my fingers had dragged me through the online store and done the damage :). A few days later  there was a text from DHL. My lovely antique cognac leather arrives home this mor ..read more

Taking each day as it comes and counting my blessings. Today was an exceptionally beautiful day on Sydney harbour. We took the ferry from Circular Quay and went down to Watsons Bay. So glad to be out and about taking in this stunner of a day! Grateful for the simple pleasures of life. Despite having dropped my Leica Q on the Ferry floor accidentally, it still seem to work perfectly well. They are built like a tank as some say! And indeed they are. Here are some photos from our walk today ..read more

“If you really love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.” Vincent Van Gogh The lockdown in Sydney has been eased starting today. It feels surreal to be out and about and to be walking close to strangers. We went for a walk around our neighbourhood (with my Leica Q of course). People were out and about taking in the autumn sun. Another beautiful day. I’ve been taking mundane photos over the last few weeks of things in and around the house, the garden, our jogging park and god knows how many food photos. All the things you do to keep your life balance together. Its screaming green! I almost ..read more
