The crisp gold and red hue of the surrounding tree foliage.  That distinct smell the air takes on, with the coming cold-front arriving.  It’s hockey season, baby, and it couldn’t come at a better time.  With a new hockey season comes new hope. A new hope that the boys will finally be able to conquer that final hump to get to the promised land.  There will be pain, and there will be heart-ache along the way; it will all be worth it in the end. If you’ve followed the National Hockey League for more than 20 years, you’ll realize this coming season has the New York Islanders in ..read more

After just an 89-day offseason, the Isles are back as Training Camp officially opens today. The New York Islanders will look slightly different after the departures of Nick Leddy and Jordan Eberle, but top to bottom the Isles remain a contender in the Eastern Conference. There are still a few questions left to be answered by Barry Trotz and his staff such as how the new additions will fit into the lineup. Trotz has two weeks to figure it out before opening night in Raleigh on October 14th. Before the Isles hit the ice tomorrow for the first time, let’s break down the five key Islanders to watc ..read more

As Islanders’ training camp approaches, GM Lou Lamoriello is slowly unfurling the cards he typically keeps so close to his chest — though unconventionally. Isles fans were surprised when Lamoriello’s newest “officially unofficial” re-signings were released through a barrage of videos and photos circulating social media, featuring Michael Dal Colle, Kieffer Bellows, and Cory Schneider attending a New York Jets game along with a good portion of the Islanders roster earlier today. In Lou Lamoriello speak: they’re back. Despite the Islanders not extending a qualifying offer to Dal Colle earlier in ..read more

Dave Scatchard was knocked unconscious. For 10 minutes, he was flat on his back as the paramedics and trainers worked on him. It was in that split second that Scatchard had a life-altering moment. “I felt my soul leave my body,” Scatchard said in an interview with IslesBlog two weeks ago. “I visited heaven and had a conversation with God. I had this vision of my casket going down into the ground — it’s the only negative vision I had; heaven was incredible. “But my two, three, and five-year-old kids were dressed in black, and as they were lowering me down, my middle three-year-old jumps on ..read more

There has been no shortage of villains that have drawn the ire of Islander fans since 1972. We decided to put together a team of the biggest nemeses in franchise history. Here’s what we came up with: OFFENSE Dale Hunter Two words: Pierre Turgeon. Kirk Muller Wasn’t thrilled to be here and didn’t last very long. Tied for 20th in all-time regular season points against the Isles. Oh, and the guy he’s tied with? Dale Hunter. In his time covering professional hockey, Stan Fischler has become an icon in the world of sports media and a staple of the New York sports media community. His award case is impressive to say the least, including eight New York Emmy awards and the 2007 Lester Patrick Award, given to personnel who provide outstanding service to hockey in the United States. Now, the Hockey Maven can add another title to his already star-studded resume.  On Thursday, Fischler was unveiled as one of the three inductees to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, as a part of the Class of 2021.
