Hi everyone,
I bought this UGREEN WiFi adapter from amazon and I'm having issues connecting to a network, the system detects the adapter and in the network options the list of available networks options but when I try to connect to any it does not establish the connection. I also tried to install the driver that is on their site but it gives me this error when running the install.sh:
Code:
/home/abielv/Downloads/RTL8811CUDriver/Linux/driver/rtl8821CU_rtl8731AU_WiFi_linux_v5.8.1.5_36625.20200416_COEX20200321-4141/core/rtw_br_ext.c:20:18: fatal error: net/ipx.h: No such file or directory

Hi,
I accidentally changed a parameter in Disks on the LV that contains Ubuntu in this dual boot PC. From memory, I think I lost authorisation to do anything to it, and then rebooted - I should've left it until I did some research.
From my reading I think I can restore it to previous by making sure the correct UUID is referenced in the fstab? I've live booted and have full access to the drive that way but I'm not sure where to go from here. From what I can see the UUID in the blkid cmd below isn't in the fstab.
It will boot to the GRUB menu and I can select the Win11 entry without issue.

Hello o/
I have an old potato laptop in which I installed Lubuntu 23.10 deleting everything else (I selected the delete disk option when installing it). It turns on and off fine but a screen appears for some seconds with the following warnings (from kern.log):

I have found it necessary every time it is suggested that I reboot to issue the command "sudo snap refresh". If I do not do that then the various snaps will not be up to date. Since like many users I spend much of my day accessing services through a browser the updates to the Firefox and Chrome browsers will be held up,
Why does the Ubuntu reboot process not automatically invoke snap refresh while there are guaranteed to be no conflicts with running processes, and the reboot has root authority ..read more

Hi All:
I installed a new blank (unformatted) 2TB NVMe chip in my notebook PC's second (of 2) available slots ("nvmes1"). My intention was to download the 22.04LTS iso and install it on this chip, where I can afterwards selectively boot to it (I have a long ago installed win10 instance on the first NVMe chip "nvmes0").
I downloaded and installed (on Win10) the recommended "balenaEtcher" iso writer package. After running, it looked like I successfully got this utility to write an installation config to the nvmes1 device - I had a p1 (uncited format type) with 5 GB in it, a p2 FAT partition wi ..read more

I have a lot of files I'd like to rename automatically. I've been doing it manually and it's tedious. It's a list of pictures, with names. I would like to add a number to the beginning of the filename, which is easy with many programs and commands. I use Thunar for this a lot, for instance. However, this time the numbers are not going to be in numerical order. They are included in a list, matched to the pictures.
This is a section of the files:
Culzean Castle 2, Scotland.jpeg
Culzean Castle 3, Scotland.jpeg
Culzean Castle 4, Scotland.jpeg
Desmond Castle, Ireland.jpeg
Dolbadarn Castle, Wales.j ..read more

I've been trying to figure this out, but I am at a loss...
I've got a file server running Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS. It is serving a large network of various machines. Since most of them are macs of various ages, the protocol to go for me is AFP (Netatalk). Most of the time (BigSur, Sierra, Sonoma) machines are doing just fine. However there are a few machines (High Sierra for instance) that although connected the same way (dual ethernets) and via same switches and routers struggle with transfer speeds over AFP (and even more so over SMB). I have tried everything to figure out what could be the reaso ..read more
