Like July of 1776, Philadelphia Is Positioning Itself To Make History Once Again. Two Hundred and Forty-eight years ago — during a sweltering summer July in Philadelphia — our nation was born thanks to the brave leadership of 56 founding fathers. For seventeen days in June — Thomas Jefferson — worked each day out of a house that he had taken up residence in at 700 Market Street and poured for seventeen days on the first draft of what would become the Declaration of Independence. Occasionally, he wandered into Philadelphia’s taverns, sipped ale, touched pen to hallowed parchment, and inked a ro ..read more

Coming into this season’s free agency window the Flyers had the third lowest cap hit of the 32 teams in the league. Only behind the Capitals, who were in the red, and the Golden Knights, who have been known to “cheat” the system using the LTIR loop hole. So the Flyers were not in a financial spot to sign big name talent like former Lightning captain Steven Stamkos who signed a 4 year 8 million AAV contract with Nashville. The Flyers did sign seven players after the free agency window opened. The team resigned veteran defenseman Erik Johnson to a 1 year 1 million dollar deal. Johnson played 17 ..read more

The night started with the San Jose Sharks, who had the first selection, which they used to take the number on prospect Macklin Celebrini. After speculations earlier this summer, it is now official that Matvei Michkov will join the Flyers for the 2024-25 season. However, because he was under contract to remain in the Russian KHL for three more seasons, Michkov fell to seventh overall when the Flyers took him. Today, Michkov’s KHL team, SKA St Petersburg, released the following statement on his behavior. “Matvei Michkov: – After much thought, I decided to try my hand at the NHL. This week, rumors have been floated that 19-year-old Russian prospect Matvei Michkov could be joining the Flyers this summer. Michkov has two years left on this KHL contract with SKA St Petersburg. It has been reported, however, that the two teams have decided to terminate the young forward’s contract so that he can join the Flyers. This practice is not unheard of, as Ivan Miroshnichenko had his KHL contract terminated so that he could join the Washington Capitals last year. The final decision is in the hands of SKA and Michkov’s family, but the Flyers and SKA are in good relations. If Michkov ..read more

The International Ice Hockey Federation banned Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov from international competition. This ruling stems from the IIHF’s original statement from last summer on which of Fedotov’s contracts are valid: the one he signed with the Flyers or the KHL’s CSKA. In the summer of 2022, Fedotov signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers to make the transition to North America. Fedotov was then arrested by the Russian military, where we spent all of the 2022-23 season at a Naval base in the Arctic Circle. After leaving his mandatory military service, Fedotov signed with CSKA, cau ..read more
