Street Dog Photography

I don’t really like the term “Street Dog Photography” as it generates a thought that I am taking photographs of strays on the street. The title came about because photographers who take images of people in the street are known as “Street Photographers”, which is what I do, but I only photograph dogs, so I needed to be able to relay that in the title., hence “Street Dog Photography”. As a pet dog portrait photographer, generating business can be difficult, especially in the current economic climate. Having a photograph taken of your dog and paying for a print is right at the bottom of people’s ..read more

For anybody that has taken the time to visit my website before (if you have, then thank you, if not, why not?), you will know that as a pet dog photographer I basically offer five different packages, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Puppy and Ad-Hoc. Is anything ever really deleted?

As a pet dog portrait photographer, one of my biggest fears is losing somebody’s images! I think, to a degree, that’s why I have never wanted to do wedding photography. It’s such an important day in people’s lives and you only have one opportunity to get it right. Although the same isn’t quite so true for pet dog photography, it can be applied when the dog is old or has a terminal illness. I have older dogs myself and I am constantly taking photographs of them in as many situations as I can. I lost my Golden Retriever some 12 years ago and wish that I had more photographs of her. Indeed, all o ..read more

I’ve known Theo and Ash, two fine looking working black Labradors, for a while now, more so Ash than Theo as I have been on shoots and seen him working, picking up shot pheasant. They are a father and son duo with Ash looking very much like his dad Theo. Theo no longer works, that said, I think he would if he were allowed! Monika, their owner and handler, I have also known for a little while and I know how much she loves these dogs. When she saw that I had started doing dog photography, she signed up and became my very first client. This was ideal for me as being my first client, it was easier ..read more

Introduction If you're lucky enough to have a puppy in your life, then you'll know that they grow up way too fast! Those first few months are just a blur of cuddles, walks and mischief, and before you know it they're all grown up. That's why it's so important to document those early days - so you can look back and remember all the precious moments. As far as pet photography goes, Puppy photography is by far my favourite photo shoot. There's nothing quite like capturing all that innocence and playfulness on camera. Whether it's interspersed with serious cuddle sessions or chaotic playtime, or p ..read more

Intro Dogs, people’s best friends! Have you ever thought about taking pictures of your dog, but dismissed it as a silly idea? Taking action and portrait photos of dogs is always fun but getting those best dog photos can be quite challenging, especially action shots. I live about 5 minutes from a very nice wood with some great backdrops, so every so often I get together my dogs Holly, Storm, Fen, Abi and young Eli, grab my camera and get out in the woods. As a pet photographer all of my pet photography photo sessions are done outside using natural light. So today I’m sharing my top 5 tips for t ..read more

WWGS (Wiltshire Working Gundog Society) and the DWSC (Dorset Working Spaniel Club) - Inter Club Challenge is an annual event between the two gundog clubs In an ideal world I would have gone and taken a load of high action shots but for the most part, the ground didn’t allow it, especially the hunting part which took place in cover of course. What I actually finished up with was some really nice images of dogs sitting with their owners or on their own waiting patiently (for the most part). Fortunately it was a beautiful, dry evening but the setting sun didn’t make the job of photographing the d ..read more

Roxy and her Puppies

So, following on from the shoot that I did with Theo and Ash was a litter shoot. The booking was to photograph Roxy the Golden Cocker Spaniel and her Puppies, all of seven of them. Right from the outset I knew this wasn’t going to be easy as the puppies were just about to go to new homes, so I guessed that they would be between eight and ten weeks old and full of life. Unfortunately aside from wanting individual shots of each puppy, the owner also wanted a shot of the whole litter and, ideally a shot of the whole litter and their mother, which proved as expected to be impossible! The individua ..read more
