In a generation where it seems like autotune can transform anyone into a pop star (yes I’m talking about you Tiktokers), emerging indie artist Nicole Ashley shows us that raw musical talent still exists in the pop scene.  Nicole’s one-in-a-million lyricism is pure stardom in the making. She proves to us that love songs don’t always have to be about the high points of our relationships. Instead of keeping these feelings hidden, we have to accept that the people most important in our life have, “motives that are blurry, I can’t see, please help me, I’ve fallen for a crime,” (lyrics I think ..read more

Love: a word behind millions of songs, and the plot to many of our favorite movies. Are the Beetles right that, “All You Need Is Love”?  20-year-old rising Singer-Songwriter Kate Stephenson is reteaching the way we deal with love and heartbreak. Kate has written a song called “Exless”, that has reached millions of hearts. It expresses the feelings and emotions that one feels when they are love-sick-without-a-lover.  In the song, Kate tells an entire generation that “it’s okay to have had a few heartbreaks more than I’ve had dates, but I just want to love before I lose.” What’s the fu ..read more

As COVID-19 brought tours, concerts, and festivals to a grinding halt, thousands of artists were left jobless. Not to mention the countless crew members, agents, and venues who lost their most reliable source of income. Losing $9.7 billion in ticket sales alone, the live music industry was forced to find a solution. Turning to social media, artists began to host free, virtual concerts. While these concerts allowed artists to engage with fans via livestream, they did not provide the income of touring. Moreover, charging fans to attend virtual concerts isn’t exactly economically viable. After al ..read more

I often say that dark appearances are facades for bright souls. It is a common theme that these types of souls find a love and outlet in the arts. However, when and how is this love being reciprocated?  Just a few of the groundbreaking artists we pay tribute to. For centuries, music has unified the differences of people and has been an outlet for creatives. Hip Hop, however, happens to be a genre of music that became a medicine and purpose for an entire demographic of creatives from every art form: the Black and Latinx people in impoverished communities. Whether you ..read more

In a writing rut? Feel like all your songs sound the same? Need inspiration? Most artists have lost their motivation to create new music during the pandemic. We get it, writing songs is hard. Searching for the right lyrics, the perfect beat, it’s not easy. Especially when our fans demand new music. To meet this demand, sometimes we default to the sound we are most comfortable with. A sound that we can make over and over again. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it can feel monotone not just for our listeners but for ourselves. So, how do we push our musical limits? How do we get out of ..read more
