Christmas is a time that is used by clubs, pundits & fans as a measuring tool to assess, and guesstimate how the rest of their season is likely to pan out. What is needed by clubs when the transfer window opens. From those chasing European ambitions to of course those clubs facing a relegation scrap. Thankfully for us Villa fans since Steven Gerrard came through the doors any worries we may have had of a relegation scrap ahead, have been quickly put to bed. With Steven Gerrard guiding us away from the relegation zone. Obtaining four wins from his first six games in charge. Before I ramble ..read more

Leicester And The Mentor Versus The Pupil

It’s Leicester and games come quick and fast this month, and at Premier league level that means utilizing your squad depth. It’s something I am not accustomed to seeing down Villa Park. It always felt like our previous managers had their favourites. As a fan you could pretty much name the team. So I don’t think the opposition had much trouble second guessing us either.  From what I have seen under Steven Gerrard so far that’s about to change. I’ve not seen it happen too often at Villa park. But I expect Steven Gerrard to again change the starting line-up for Leicester this Sunday. He does ..read more

Sloppy Villa Gift City But Can Hold Their Heads High

Had Aston Villa not been so sloppy and given the Premier League Champions a two goal head start. Then maybe we would be talking about three wins from three for Steven Gerrard and the perfect game plan. One where Villa sat back, absorbed everything City threw at them, then grew into the game before delivering them a sucker punch.  However, such is City’s quality, for the first twenty minutes it appeared to be a mismatch and was boys against men. Their constant attacks were relentless, particularly from the wide areas. At times, our defenders looked like Bambi on ice. Ultimately City’s press ..read more

Big Test Ahead For New Look Villa

It’s another big test for Steven Gerrard and his new look Villa team. The biggest to date, because the Premier League Champions are coming to town. Can we beat them? Yes, anything is possible. This must be true because if it were false that would be horrible. Will we beat them? Probably not. I suspect that’s the mindset of the majority of Villa fans going into this game. Lets hope Steven Gerrard and the players think differently. Anyway this means subconsciously I have already written off this game as a loss. But in reality I am praying to be proved wrong. My illogical logic You see my logic a ..read more

Targett On Target Has Villa Record Back To Back Wins

Matt Targett gave Villa the lead in what was a superb first half performance and late into the second half John McGinn hit the target to make sure that all 3 points were coming back to the Midlands. Palace did get a consolation goal late in added time but it was too little too late for the Eagles..  Villa Dazzle At The Palace Steven Gerrard’s perfect start in the Aston Villa hot seat continues. For the second consecutive week Villa showed real grittiness, resilience and determination throughout the match. We looked organised and put in a solid performance. For all Palace’s possession they ..read more

Just like the chosen one, who we know sets very high standards, and who leads by example. We Villa fans also have high standards. But the majority of us realise when the reins are handed over. We have to make allowances, and therefore don’t expect miracles to happen overnight. But we do expect to see steady progression. That said, we can’t ignore the fact that our league position is a precarious one. But the positive being, there is still two thirds of the season remaining. I know I am stating the obvious but we do need to see an upturn in results, and quickly. Before a bad situation turns int ..read more

Stevie G Villa Managerial Career Off And Running

Stevie G stepped out from the Villa Park tunnel and took his applause as he made his way to the dugout. The game kicked off and Stevie G was soon animated and claiming every decision for his Villa Team. Aston Villa fans have themselves a very passionate Manager such is Stevie G’s enthusiasm for the game. Stevie G cannot help but kick every ball from the sidelines, and he did so until the final whistle.  The work Stevie G and his staff were able to do with the players in the short time they’ve had with them, would have been minimal. But it was clear the togetherness among the players was b ..read more

Steven Gerrard Welcome He Swaps Ibrox For Villa Park

Steven Gerrard has been confirmed as the new Aston Villa head coach. What we know so far is Steven Gerrard could have stayed at Glasgow Rangers and potentially taken them automatically straight into the proper stages of the Champions League by winning the Scottish League title this season. But no, he never chose the safe option, such is the bravery of the man. He clearly believes in his own managerial ability. So he’s opted for the beautiful south. He no doubt feels that Villa Park could be Rotterdam anywhere, Liverpool Or Rome.  I don’t buy we will just be a stepping stone for him. Some ..read more

The Villa Boss Must Plot Bonfire Night Victory

The Villa boss Dean Smith must light the fuse that ignites a spark into his Villa players on Bonfire night. And he needs the spark to last the whole 90 minutes and not just fizzle out when they face Southampton. Dean Smith will need to call upon all of his experience, if he is to rejuvenate his young guns’ confidence ahead of the game. The players owe him a big performance so hopefully they will pay him back with a firework display of their own. After all, form is temporary and class is permanent. Smith knows his players cannot afford to fail like Robert Catesby and his co-conspirators did in ..read more

Villa’s Nightmare Halloween Horror Show
AVFC VILLA BLOG | Aston Villa news and opinion supporters site

Villa’s nightmare continued with a halloween horror showing against West Ham. It’s one the club or manager Dean Smith could ill afford. It’s Villa’s fourth successive defeat. And as a result the pressure on Dean Smith has cranked up another notch. From the moment young Jacob Ramsay went off I was questioning the decision to opt for Ashley Young as his replacement. Personally I would have gone with Carney Chukwuemeka. Even if I put on my Villa specs it’s hard to take anything from Villa’s nightmare.  Hoping for Change I was hoping for change, and from a personnel perspective I got that. Bu ..read more
