Martin St. Louis won’t have to worry about being in the final year of his contract next season after all. The team announced on Wednesday that they’ve exercised a two-year extension option on his contract, keeping him behind the bench through the 2026-27 season.
That the bench boss is sticking around doesn’t come as much surprise although the fact there was a team option in his contract was as that had not been previously reported.
Since replacing Dominique Ducharme partway through the 2021-22 season, St. Louis has guided the team to a 75-100-26 record. While that record is far fro ..read more

After a game with huge emotional swings on Monday that featured the Lane Hutson debut alongside a spectacular comeback win for the Red Wings that saved their season, Montreal and Detroit were right back in action on Tuesday night. This was the Habs’ last game of the season while the Wings were hoping it wasn’t theirs. Even with a win, the Red Wings were betrayed by a Capitals win as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Canadiens were the better team through the first 40 minutes, but much like Monday, Detroit’s desperation showed in the third as they were able to complete a second strai ..read more

While it took a little longer than expected, the Habs announced on Tuesday that they’ve signed winger Luke Tuch to a two-year, entry-level contract. The deal will begin next season and financial terms were not disclosed.
The Canadiens drafted the 22-year-old winger in the second round in 2020, picking him 47th overall out of the US National Team Development Program. He wasn’t a big point producer with that team but with his size and physicality, he fit the profile of a bottom-six power forward which certainly appealed to Montreal’s management.
Tuch has spent the last four seasons a ..read more

The Habs got through the second-last week of the season with one of their better weeks in the standings, picking up four of a possible six points. Along the way, they had their biggest offensive outburst of the season and signed one of their top prospects.
The Week That Was
Apr. 9: Canadiens 9, Flyers 3 – With Philadelphia having a lot to play for as they’re in the thick of the playoff race, no one expected them to come out and lay the proverbial egg. Their goaltending was atrocious and the Habs more than took advantage. Juraj Slafkovsky had his first career NHL hat trick, Jo ..read more

There was good news and bad news on Tuesday when it came to the Xhekaj brothers. The good news was for Florian as the Habs announced that they’ve signed him to a three-year, entry-level deal while the bad news is that Arber is set to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery on Wednesday.
Florian was a fourth-round pick by the Habs last June, going 101st overall. With pedestrian offensive numbers and the fact he went unpicked in his first year of eligibility, the selection seemed like a bit of a reach at the time.
However, in the post-draft behind the scenes video that was released af ..read more
