“Oh, Peg, have I got a story to tell you…” That’s how the most recent episode of What If…? season two had ended. Now, we’ll learn the story in the season finale. Let’s talk about What If…? episode 2-9, the one that’s just plain dumb. Never Trust Kahhori Image: Disney What does the recently redeemed, formerly soul-stealing Dr. Strange need with Peggy? Apparently, the “good guy” is stopping some multiversal threats, just like he did at the end of season one in helping Peggy stop Infinity Gauntlet Ultron. A Marvel executive was unusually forthcoming this week. So, we just learned a lot about what’s happening behind the scenes. We’ll talk about which projects are on the frontburner and which ones may be canceled/delayed. Eternals 2 vs. Shang-Chi 2 vs. Blade Source: Marvel Studios Before we detail the interview, let’s discuss something I couldn’t work into last week’s news update. Rumors persist that Marvel has taken a hard look at its upcoming schedule and made some changes. What if Odin were just a bad parent? That’s the simple premise that drives the plot in the latest What If…? story, and I kinda love it. After all, we’ve witnessed adopted child Loki try to enslave a planet, Thor act like an entitled nepo baby, and Hela try to kill everyone. In the cases of Loki and Thor, the MCU has told later stories that redeem each character, demonstrating they can change for the better. In What If…Hela Found the Ten Rings?, the same possibility arises for Hela. Will she take it? Let’s talk about What If…? episode 2-7, the least likely MCU redemption story to date. Hela an ..read more

The Tesseract has proven formidable in multiple MCU stories. In the latest episode of What If…?, takes an intriguing approach to the premise, though. What would happen if the Tesseract broke and accidentally empowered an entire community? Image: Disney Let’s talk about What If…? episode 2-6, the one where noble Kahhori reshapes the world. Siblings in a Village Image: Disney This episode focuses on one of the Five Nations from pre-colonial America. This week: Marvel fires somebody else, and Venom gets its subtitle. You’ll want to read the latest edition of MarvelBlog News. Marvel Fires a Director before His Show Airs Image: Marvel Just when we thought the behind-the-scenes turmoil at Marvel had ended, the studio dropped another bombshell. Here’s the headline straight from Variety’s front page: Photo: MickeyBlog “Marvel shocker: ‘X-Men ‘97’ creator Beau DeMayo fired weeks before premiere.” In reading that, I fear that all your excitement regarding this long-anticipated project may have just evaporated. This past week, Bob Iger talked turkey about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while IATSE made a threat, and physical media returned. I’ll explain in this week’s MarvelBlog News. Iger Talks Shop Photo: Getty Images Bob Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, discussed one of his holdings, Marvel, at a recent Q&A session. Appearing at a Morgan Stanley event, Iger answered a wide range of questions involving superhero fatigue. Yes, that’s the same topic I detailed last week, but now we have the person in charge of Marvel commenting. Getty Images Before I detail his thoughts, I should add ..read more

This week, we talk about how Sony will pick up the pieces and what Disney is doing to avoid the same fate. Hopefully, everyone will learn from their mistakes in the latest edition of MarvelBlog News. Sony Picks Up the Pieces Source: Marvel/ Sony In life, sometimes you’re the bug, and sometimes you’re the windshield. Lately, Sony has been the bug, not the windshield, at least when it comes to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. I’ve seen crypto coin scams work better…and I mean for the buyer, not the scammer. Something I adore about What If…? is that some episodes deviate greatly from the source material of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For example, Doctor Strange went nuts and became the greatest threat to the multiverse at one point in season one. Later, the Avenger returned to make amends by fighting an even greater threat. Source: Marvel Studios I’m sure he’s totally redeemed and changed now. This is funny if you’ve already watched all of season two, I swear. Then, we have episodes like the one we’re about to discuss, premises where only one little thing changes…but it matters greatly. Let’s ..read more

Merry Christmas, everyone! Yes, I realize that the calendar indicates a date much closer to Spring Break than Christmas. However, when Disney+ aired the episode of What If…? we’re about to discuss, it was Christmas Eve. Image: Disney So, Marvel naturally did a Die Hard parody, and I love everyone involved for that thoughtful gift. Let’s talk about What If…? episode 2-3, the one where they do NOT come out to the coast nor have a few laughs. What if…Happy Hogan Saved Christmas? Nobody at Marvel likes to use the term “superhero fatigue,” but it’s not really up to them. The reality is that other studios like Warner Bros. and Sony have oversaturated the market. Now, all comic book films must clear an extraordinarily high hurdle to satisfy spoiled fans. Source: Jessie Grant/ Disney/ Getty Images Kevin Feige and his team are aware of this emerging issue and taking steps to prevent it. We’ll discuss some of the tactics in this week’s MarvelBlog News.
