All Aboard! – Award-Winning Afternoon Tea on Brighton Regency Routemaster
Restaurants Brighton Blog

Those of you who know me, may have occasionally been frustrated by my optimistic timekeeping. For my family, I’ll admit that this ‘quirk’ has been the cause of some stress and the adoption of management tactics including misleading me about start times to improve my punctuality.  Perfect timing Unfortunately, this particular strategy is thwarted when I’m in charge of the plan, which I was, when booking an afternoon tea tour aboard the gorgeous Brighton Regency Routemaster. An early springtime treat to mark the end of a slog of a winter, the whole family was excited and raring to go. I’d r ..read more

There’s no brunch like Arcobaleno
Restaurants Brighton Blog

Somewhere over the rainbow, or perhaps just over the Old Steine depending on where you’re visiting from, you’ll find Arcobaleno (the Italian word for rainbow). Tucked in the heart of Kemptown village, this LGBTQ+ café, a gay bar and events space does a little bit of everything. So, if you’ve recently found yourself wondering where you can get brunch, 241 burgers and chess (the classic duo), Sunday Roasts, line dancing, tequila tasting (put 26 March in your diary) and hire a slick space downstairs for a private party, look no further.  Home away from home It seems rather fitting that my p ..read more

English’s of Brighton: A Taste of History, Freshness, and Tradition
Restaurants Brighton Blog
by Torsten Hojer

When Facebookers post Old Brighton photos in those ‘window to the past’ groups, English’s is often in shot. Photos of passers-by sporting the fashions of the era are in full view – from post-war women in billowing skirts to men hobbling in Sixties-style heeled boots and Beatles-inspired collarless jackets. The restaurant is a Brighton institution and has survived since the 1890s. It’s been managed by the same family since 1945 but today it exudes a palpable sense of new life while retaining its charm.  Assistant Manager Manu, who looked after us the evening we visited, possesses that welc ..read more

Brunch Bliss at Starfish and Coffee, Queens Park

Brighton’s vibrant culinary scene never fails to delight, and on a recent sunny spring morning (one of those rare moments we’ve had in between solid rain) I had the pleasure of experiencing a brunch like no other at the multi-award-winning Starfish & Coffee in Queens Park. Set into one of our city’s many hills, tucked back a little from the bustling front and that day’s blue, blue sea, Starfish & Coffee exudes a cosy warmth and sense of neighbourhood café charm from the moment you step inside. The decor is lovely – deep, complicated blues with pops of colour, worn wooden floor; p ..read more

Welcome to Wabi Sabi, one of Hove’s most authentic and inviting Japanese restaurants, where you can dine on succulent sashimi, robust ramen, and divine donburi, all topped off with an expertly crafted cocktail!  As a die-hard sushi fan myself, I have been eyeing up Wabi Sabi for ages and was absolutely thrilled when I was invited to come for lunchtime treat with my bestie Lucy…Between us we have five little ones and the idea of having a quiet lunch, just the two of us, without a juice box in sight, was almost too good to be true!  Eclectic and Inviting On arrival, we were greeted by ..read more

Restaurants Brighton Blog
by George McCluskey

If you’ve stepped outside your house in the last few years, you might have noticed that Brighton is spoiled for choice when it comes to Indian restaurants. But despite all the new names on the scene, Curry Leaf Cafe remains a steadfast favourite with locals and visitors alike. As they enter their 10th year of slinging out incredible South-Indian street food, curries and, of course, some outstanding craft beer, we popped in for lunch to discover the three golden rules this Brighton-born restaurant follows to stay on top.  Rule 1. First Impressions Count Whether intentional or not, the Cur ..read more

My visit to Tinto Taperia wasn’t intended to be a date night blog, and it didn’t turn into that either. But something about it, coupled with Valentine’s Day approaching like a speeding arrow flung from a trigger happy cherub, has left that distinct flavour in my mind. I’d been asked to cover the modern Spanish restaurant’s vegan offering. My date-not-date was the very wonderful Torsten, who has previously covered Tinto’s more omnivorous fare in his Tinto Taperia: tasty tapas theatrics blog. We met first for a quick catch up and chanced upon some friends who told us: a) their first date was at ..read more

A Bright, Beautiful Lunch at The Little Fish Market
Restaurants Brighton Blog

On one of those crisp January days when the sky is impossibly blue and the light reflecting off the sea is almost blinding, Team RB met at The Little Fish Market in Hove to celebrate the start of the New Year. Seated in the window, with light streaming in on both sides of the stunning dual-aspect space, we revelled in our good luck to be lunching at one of the city’s finest establishments, for the very first time.  Simplicity and Ease Until now, chef Duncan Ray’s restaurant has kept things perfectly simple – with the sole option of a spectacular tasting menu for evening diners. Helping Local Restaurants Meet Sustainability Goals in 2024
Restaurants Brighton Blog

Restaurants Brighton opens the year with an exciting new partnership, a strong sense of our place in the local community and a willingness to play our part.  Towards the end of 2023, we were approached by academics Tim Laing and Adam Jones from The University of Brighton who were looking to conduct research on the factors that support restaurants in Brighton and Hove to become more environmentally sustainable. Their ultimate goal is to develop an environmentally responsible restaurant toolkit to be made available across the city. We couldn’t possibly say no when they asked for our help to ..read more
