Looking Forward – Looking Back Back at the Gtech 24th March TREBLE chasing Brentford’s Women’s emphatic 6-1 win against Ashmount Leigh at the Gtech was our 13th consecutive victory. In the stands the adults leisurely supped on their alcoholic drinks, taking their time to enjoy their beverages whilst around them a new swarm of young Bees fans were being born. The noise, the enthusiasm is something to behold. Kids were singing Bees songs from outside the Steam Museum all the way up to the ground, their hand held signs were not begging for shirts but had slogans like “Go Brentford GO”. Those that ..read more

The unique Stan Bowles

He first played at Griffin Park in 1971 when he was with Crewe Alexandra. Bees keeper Gordon Phillips saved when a ball was flicked through to Bowles. He narrowed the angle well and safely gathered the shot. Bees won 3-1. On that day, Bowles was watched by scouts from Ipswich, Norwich and Fulham.         In that last week of October 1981, Brentford signed Chris Kamara, 23, from Portsmouth as part of a swap deal with winger David Crown. Then ex-England international (5 caps) Stan Bowles, 32, joined from Leyton Orient.     Pre match with Burnley, Bowles wa ..read more

Arsenal 2; Brentford 1; 09 March 2024 A couple of concerning cases of inability caused Brentford a late 2-1 defeat at The Emirates Stadium, allowing the home side to top the Premier League table and make rumblings of the ‘r’ word gain volume in even the most optimistic of Bees fans’ thoughts. The bitterest pill of inability to swallow, was that of the referee and linesman failing to show a second yellow card to Kai Havertz for the most pathetic dive since Penny Mordaunt appeared on reality TV show Splash! Anyone not affiliated with the Gunners or the matchday officials was united in their beli ..read more

THIRD SEASON: Bowen blitz West Ham United 4, Brentford 2; 26 February 2024 It is rare that a striker sees off Brentford’s defence and even more so when after five minutes of the match he scored two goals in less time than it takes to boil a kettle. Sadly, and perhaps surprisingly, it was not Ivan Toney who seized the initiative that swiftly, but West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen – and he added to to that early brace by completing his first Premier League hat-trick for the Hammers. No wonder Thomas Frank confessed to being ‘unbelievably irritated’ by what was possibly the worst performance by his injury ..read more

1889 Heritage shirt
Bees United | Welcome to the Brentford FC Supporters Trust

When we were planning our commemoration event to unveil a plaque celebrating BFC’s foundation in 1889, we knew that our founding fathers, Brentford Rowing club, agreed in October 1889, to form a new cub. We also knew they also decided that that the club colours should be claret and blue. A third colour, Salmon, was recorded but there’s no evidence it was ever used.   It seemed silly not to see if there was a way we could add a different original heritage shirt to the huge collection that Brendan Nevin put on display from the past, and one you could buy too!   And what a colle ..read more

Middlesex Junior Cup 1894 – Match report
Bees United | Welcome to the Brentford FC Supporters Trust

The new Brentford heritage shirt was the kit worn when we won the Middlesex Junior Cup in April 1894. It was only the club’s 5th season in existence since the (breakaway) Rowing Club founded it in 1889. The club had entered this cup in the 2 previous seasons but this was the club’s first real cup success. About 500-600 B’s (not yet “Bees”) fans travelled to the final at Crouch-end, south Hornsey from Kew Bridge station. Three trains were used. One train was a short one, and “its capacities were severely taxed to accommodate the crowd”. A telegraph messenger brought news of the half time and fi ..read more

#ARSBRE preview Greville interview
Bees United | Welcome to the Brentford FC Supporters Trust

This Saturday we face Brentford at home and ahead of this, we had a chat with Greville Waterman, long-time Brentford fan and author of several books about the club. You finished in ninth place last season and are currently in 15th place. What has been the main factor in the team going backwards compared to the previous season? Well it is glaringly obvious, I think. Injuries and the absence of Ivan Toney have had a huge effect on the team. We have lost so many players over the season and continue to do so. We are currently without our entire first choice back four and obviously we also lost our ..read more

Like everybody else I was shocked and distressed to hear the sad news today of the death of a true legend of the game in Stan Bowles. I would like to remember him with a smile on his face as he gave such pleasure to untold millions of football fans with his skill, joie de vivre and overall approach to life. The term genius is thrown around with gay abandon and often applied to merely the very good rather than the rare one-offs and special ones, but nobody could ever quibble or complain at Stan being so described. He had a wonderful career that spanned the best part of ..read more

The Bees United BU-BFC Archive and the Bob Amos collection I was feeling rather pleased with life in general, as one does! This in particular, was on the way back from Wolverhampton on Saturday 10th February. You Redzzzz! Just approaching Rugby, I saw a post on one of the Facebook groups, from Julie, who hoped she could find a home for her Dad’s Brentford memorabilia. There were some super photos of books from lots of our famous authors. Wonderfully a few fans had already said “Get in touch with Bees United“, “see if they want the items for their BFC archive collection”. By that time I’d alre ..read more
