Although he can’t talk to communicate his wants and needs, Gabriel continues to amaze me with his reading and writing skills. His abilities are that of a child years above him in age.
Writing has given him a voice we’ve been desperate to hear for such a long time. Reading has given him an escapism when the demands of his day are too much to bear.
After driving past our favourite play centre today, clearly missing his usual activities amid the pandemic, he wrote the name of the establishment on his tablet and pushed it to me to read. He understood when I wrote back ‘it’s closed’ and he accept ..read more

Did we do okay?
That’s my question of the week.
My eldest son, Luis has left Primary School and preparing to start High School in September. But wait, I’m not ready. I didn’t do enough. I haven’t given him enough of my time, or cherished and remembered enough of his early years.
I remember when he was a baby. No other distractions in my life. I could focus my attention solely on him. I would just sit and watch him, fascinated by every whimper and movement. Taking in everything and storing it in my mind’s own keepsake box, wrapped up and tied with a bow. I would play with him at every opportu ..read more
