Hi all. Looking to hear from people who are T1 and tried keto/low-carb diet. I'm T1 for over 2 years, managing reasonably well, but feeling like reducing carbs further so most likely I will end up producing ketones. I'm not really sure what to expect....but I'm assuming that if my glucose level is in a good range I shouldn't have any risk of DKA while producing ketons due to low intake of carbs ..read more

Is high fasting, BG going to stop me from achieving ketosis

Since diagnosis of type 2, approximately 4 years ago, I've always had a high fasting BG reading. This is despite, at times, bringing my weight down significantly and bringing my HbA1c right down. Will this prevent me from ever getting into ketosis, and is there a solution ..read more

Ok, I've tried dropping carbs before but like many the lure of a carb laden meal is just too much. I have a brilliant diabetic nurse who is actually a type 1 so I can have research orientated, indepth discussions freely and without ridicule by the " Well I have a 4 hour session diploma in diabetes so I know more than you" nurses. Fast forward to this year, 01.01.2024 and I am giving low carb another go but this time it is going to be easier as my wife is going to help me, she will have... Read more ..read more

Hi I’m new to Keto, been doing it for 3 weeks and think I’m doing ok. I’m based in the UK and want to know what is the best protein powder I can use to boost my protein levels if I’m not getting enough from my foods. Someone has suggested putting some in my bulletproof coffee in the morning ?? As I’m not feeling full enough after it. Currently putting tbsp of butter and a tbsp MCT oil in. I seem to be getting enough fat throughout the day but my protein always comes up short. Any advice... Read more ..read more

Good morning! I have finally gotten in to a keto diet. It feels like a 'get out of jail card ' in many ways. I think it's around 5 weeks now and I don't wanna come of it! Yesterday however, I felt really unwell at work and couldn't work out why. I then wondered if it was due to a lack of electrolytes. I had been using a cheap zero sugar one but then started to add more salt to my food (a friend does this so I thought it would work) But after desperately taking a large increase (4 tablets... Hello, Yesterday, I applied from a free trial of a Continuous Ketone Monitor. I already have a free trial of a Libre 2 CGM, so I thought I might give it a go. Anyway, I haven't heard anything back, so I assume I was unsuccessful. Nice of them to let me know! So I just wondered if anyone had tried one of these new CKMs, and if so, what was your experience? I may actually buy one, as I'm curious to know if I get into ketosis ..read more

I’ve been on the Keto diet for the last 5 weeks and mostly it has been good. Weight loss has been spectacular,, started at 90kg now 81kg, I’m male around 6ft. Bloods down from around 7.5 to 5. So that’s the good side, last week i think a got the infamous ‘Keto Flu’. Headaches, listless, difficulty eating, and a touch of constipation. it was so bad i was considering coming off the diet. So I hit Mrs Google and worked out i might be short of , in no particular order, electrolytes, roughage... Read more ..read more
